W E L P never sleeping again

was going pee and there's a massive boom from the back bedroom (that shares a wall with mine)

and now, logically it's a tree branch, already had one fall yesterday or the day before, but my brain goes to 'someone's in the house!'

even though there was no sound of breaking glass, and to get in through one of the bedroom windows they'd need a ladder or at least a stepstool

Are you having a storm there? High winds?

and since it's just me and the cat home, another person would be real obvious

not really? But the tree is old and diseased and it hasn't dropped limbs the last time we've had high winds

I hate being alone at night because my brain does the same thing

she's conked out now

so yeah logically I know it was nothing, but I'ma go get the crowbar out of the garage tomorrow, keep it at hand for ...a while

she did the startle-and-keep-low when it first happened, so it was definitely our roof not a transformer down the street or something

and I'll go check when it's daylight

But she's fine now?

oh yeah, she's out cold, not snoring yet, but with her face mashed up on the blanket

I was asking about the kitty because it's something I started using as a sort of good trigger for my brain. If my cats were not freaking out then it's okay because they have senses that alert them to earthquakes and stuff too so they would know something was up before me.

So my cats are my go to when I start getting anxiety about something and my brain tries to freak me out

LOL and as soon as I say that she hops off the bed to go stare at my door/the hallway underneath it

but I think it's because there's a moth that bopped her in the face and she's trying to find it

she needed a drink of water, but apparently either was still spooked or knew I was, because she waited for me to go with her
