my brother got me a Yeti drink cup for my birthday, it's a pretty seafoam green and I love it.
Pipkin
I put ice in it with my drink six hours ago and with one refill of drink but not ice? All that ice is barely melted.
Pipkin
the ones that were conjoined from the ice maker dumping them over? Haven't even melted enough to separate on their own
Pipkin
though they will if I give it a shake
𝒲𝒾𝓃𝓉𝑒𝓇 𝒮𝑜𝓁𝒹𝒾𝑒𝓇
Yep, they're pretty great. We had a resident who would only drink cold thickened water - we'd refill her Yeti cup once every 24 hrs, it would still be mildly cold when we refilled it.
Pipkin
yeah! He's got one of the bottles for when he does yard work, and he's got one of the, like, keg sized ones (well, mini party keg-sized)
Pipkin
and he's extolled their virtues to me before
𝒲𝒾𝓃𝓉𝑒𝓇 𝒮𝑜𝓁𝒹𝒾𝑒𝓇
I've looked at them before, thinking about buying one, but I don't actually drink cold stuff often enough to justify it, lol. But I've heard a lot of good things about them.
Pipkin
they work for hot too! Gonna test that tomorrow with a coffeen
𝒲𝒾𝓃𝓉𝑒𝓇 𝒮𝑜𝓁𝒹𝒾𝑒𝓇
Yeah, but I have this weird window of not-really-hot to not-really-cold that I like my drinks. If I put hot tea in it, I wouldn't be able to drink it for like, 5 hours at least.
𝒲𝒾𝓃𝓉𝑒𝓇 𝒮𝑜𝓁𝒹𝒾𝑒𝓇
I think they're awesome! Just not for my wierd, sensitive mouth/system.
Pipkin
nah, I getchu
Pipkin
honestly I probably shouldn't be drinking things so cold bc of suuuper sensitive teeth. But with a straw it doesn't hit my teefs!
ɗυ boiѕ°
ohh my boss bought me one of those for christmas, coincidentally also seafoam green
ɗυ boiѕ°
they are awesome
Pipkin
and because it's lorge-size he also got me the slide-on handle for it, which was nice of him
Pipkin
otherwise I would have dropped it a bunch of times already
Pipkin
but yeah, definitely quality!
Pipkin
15ish hours later: still has ice!
Pipkin
it's definitely melted a bunch, but there's still whole cubes in there and hasn't melted enough that they're floating, still just stacked up on each other in the shallow puddle
Pipkin
and today: testing heat retention - just after 11am: coffee = almost too hot to drink
Pipkin
20 minutes later, singed my tongue so the lid is coming off until it's actually drinkable temperature
𝒲𝒾𝓃𝓉𝑒𝓇 𝒮𝑜𝓁𝒹𝒾𝑒𝓇
yeahhhh.
Pipkin
I thought it was cool enough when I put the lid on in the first place!
Pipkin
okay now an hour later (mostly with lid off) it is drinkable temperature, so lid is going back on
𝒲𝒾𝓃𝓉𝑒𝓇 𝒮𝑜𝓁𝒹𝒾𝑒𝓇
that's good to know! I was worried even with the lid off it would trap enough heat to keep it on the undrinkable side for longer. (But I mean. when you're craving your caffeinated beverage of choice, an hr is a long time to wait.)
Pipkin
it's a 30-32 ounce mug, so it's a pretty wide mouth with the lid off
Pipkin
but considering that in a normal porcelain mug it's gone clammy after an hour, this is an improvement
𝒲𝒾𝓃𝓉𝑒𝓇 𝒮𝑜𝓁𝒹𝒾𝑒𝓇
yyyy that's very true!
𝒲𝒾𝓃𝓉𝑒𝓇 𝒮𝑜𝓁𝒹𝒾𝑒𝓇
I mean, I'm kind of converting everything into "tea temp time" lol, but since I make it with boiling water most of the time, I feel it's fairly similar.
𝒲𝒾𝓃𝓉𝑒𝓇 𝒮𝑜𝓁𝒹𝒾𝑒𝓇
I'll have to keep one on my "maybe someday you'll have money" wishlist, bc thinking about it more, my tea is usually close to the perfect temp once it's steeped for several minutes, & then I add cold milk. And then 10 mins later it's barely hot enough. And by the time I finish it it's... basically room temp. x_x
Pipkin
yep! I did French press today, so that's boiling water + about 10 minutes for it to be ready to drink with the sugar and creamer and etc.
Pipkin
but yeah, if I know I'm going to be drinking it right away, regular mug is fine for coffee or tea, but I'm actually a little in love with this thing now, and I'm pretty sure he knew I would be
𝒲𝒾𝓃𝓉𝑒𝓇 𝒮𝑜𝓁𝒹𝒾𝑒𝓇
that's awesome!
Pipkin
also the slidey flap to cover the drink hole? MAGNETIC! It comes off for easy cleaning so you don't get dried out drink-sludge under it going gross
𝒲𝒾𝓃𝓉𝑒𝓇 𝒮𝑜𝓁𝒹𝒾𝑒𝓇
ooh, that's very handy!
𝒲𝒾𝓃𝓉𝑒𝓇 𝒮𝑜𝓁𝒹𝒾𝑒𝓇
you sound like me with my new milk frother, lol. I'm like "hi, I absolutely love this thing, I'm using it every day. I am coming up with reasons to use it more."
Pipkin
is it one of the mini french press kind or the round coil whisk with a battery?
Pipkin
or some other kind that I don't know about??
Pipkin
(I have both those kinds and love them equally and the press one works waaay better with almost ice-cold milk than anything)
𝒲𝒾𝓃𝓉𝑒𝓇 𝒮𝑜𝓁𝒹𝒾𝑒𝓇
coil whisk, but this one has a cord. which is the only annoying thing, bc it's clearly made for right handed people. >.> but I make it work. also, I got it secondhand, so it doesn't have a lid. But I make it work. (LOL)
Pipkin
yeah the coil-whisk/battery one I have is apparently for matcha lattes? Like 'matcha DNA' is the actual brand? But I been using it for foaming up my coffee drinks since I got it so
Pipkin
(I think it was a freebie with something else I ordered)
𝒲𝒾𝓃𝓉𝑒𝓇 𝒮𝑜𝓁𝒹𝒾𝑒𝓇
a nurse at work & I were talking about matcha, she said she made hers with milk, mentioned the frother, asked if I had one - when I said no, but I'd looked into getting one a while ago, she was like "Do you want one?!" her SO makes her get rid of stuff when she gets new, & she's got a fancy Nescafe one now (that came w/ a coffeemaker, I think)
𝒲𝒾𝓃𝓉𝑒𝓇 𝒮𝑜𝓁𝒹𝒾𝑒𝓇
They lost the lid to the other one, eventually found it, then lost the lid to this one, lol. I was like "eh, it's fine." It's just a cheap $20, but it works great. All the reviews I was seeing for that price range people were like "don't waste your money, it hardly lasts 6 months." & she's had it for a while, so hopefully it doesn't die on me.
Pipkin
it's still warm! Comfortably so, not 'well now it's just tepid'
Pipkin
I mean, generally speaking you don't really want to drink coffee that's been sitting this long, the oils degrade, but I'm a heathen and don't care.
Pipkin
still comfortably warm and now down to the dregs, so! Verdict: very yes.
𝒲𝒾𝓃𝓉𝑒𝓇 𝒮𝑜𝓁𝒹𝒾𝑒𝓇
sweet!
