On the center of his chest, directly over his heart, is the mark of the Kingsglaive. A tattoo received directly from the King themself to enchant their bodies to receive the spells in the ink. Only the current King has the power required to cast this particular spell and it’s necessary for the others to work.
Bonus: cultural differences and lost Galahdan knowledge results in some miscommunication where Luna doesn’t immediately know what it means and Nyx is just a ball of anxiety and stress for the next week because he’s so nervous about how she’ll answer and can’t just ask outright
It’s such a vulnerable step for him to make so he paces and agonizes and can barely sleep waiting for whether she’ll accept him or not and his friends just laugh at how awkward he is in this one thing about his life until one of them takes enough pity to explain to her the custom
But he is offering it as a symbol of absolute trust that he can be vulnerable with her without fear of being stabbed in the back. Not so you can rush headlong into situations with it.
And then I realize that magic tattoos is basically my headcanon for Tenten and her weapons. Cuz fuck if she hasn't figured out how to seal them on herself instead of her bangle scrolls after the time jump.
