because when I filled out the survey myself this morning, it got me to thinking how different people's identities, cultures, etc really change how they view things or how they express things
and it was noticed how, like... a lot of mainstream horror in terms of, like, slasher films and monsters used very... violent penetrative sort of actions? knives, chainsaws, etc
but the person had noticed that with a lot of the female horror crowd they looked at or hung out with, the horror was more focused a lot on mouths, teeth, cannibailsm, etc
I wonder how much of that, then, is tied up with women’s consumption being a subversive act? Women being encouraged to not consume or take up space, so that then greedy, unapologetic consumption and largeness and loudness and appetite becomes monstrous, which could be problematic.
But when driven by the people who are told not to consume, it become atavistic and wish-fulfilling and an outlet for impulses and desires, which the best horror always does.
but yeah, when i was reminded of that conversation, I started to wonder how queerness, or at least my queerness, might impact my preferences or interest in horror
I'm not really a gorn horror lover. Like, I've enjoyed films such as the Alien series, and Jaws , but stuff that's, like... Slasher film type stuff? That doesn't do it for me, more often than not.
like, the horror that I tend to be most interested in is monster (jaws) and supernatural (the grudge), plus just... generally more atmospheric horror than anything
but it was kind of like a mix of audience and creators, i suppose 8Ta since the female creators that was mentioned in the conversation were mainly, like, artists on art websites and such
anyway, yeah, furries/monsterfuckers do seem to be full of queer folks (or maybe all the furries i know are also just queer, so my perception is skewed WHO KNEWS) and it does seem to kind of... tie in with perception of outcasts, or "sinners", or bodies not being what they want them to be
And it's hard to break into it as a woman. I know I've shared on my plurk the stories about our local old west themed horror anthology, and how 90% of the accepted stories are from men, every year. Despite...many ladies sending in much better stories.

there was someone in that thread i mentioned that talked about, like, a horror class where this came up, and i'd love to attend even a class on that sort of thing
but, see, that makes me wonder about, like... even if it's a female character doing it, if the director/writer/whatever are dudes, what is the association
White is interesting because it's a slow build up to the actual supernatural stuff, because it's... also showing true horror is in the cutthroat idol industry
MC can see ghosts, which is sure fucking a pain in the ass for him while living in the city, so he moves back to his more rural home town... only to stumble onto
1. a dead girl who he ends up growing closer with and 2. oh no people are getting mysteriously murdered, fuck, shit, he doesn't want to deal with more ghosts
A good example of a romantic scene is when he tries to take a picture of him and his new gf... but his phone can't capture her image. since she's dead.
meanwhile, on the horror end of things, he recounts a memory from his childhood where there was a missing girl, and, well. she was dead, from drowning. and as all his teachers are demanding how he knew this, he can see her in the room with him
I may have scewed their results. I have a love hate relationship with horror. As in I love the idea of it but in reality I'm a wimp when it comes to films
i also know of a couple short series but need to be on the computer to look them up (also always will pimp out The Master's Sun even if the horror elements are backburners at times)
also there is Goblin: The Great and Lonely God. which is about a goblin (short version an artifact imbued with the soul of its own wee after slaughtering armies trying to find death) and his 'bride'
