This is randomly inspired by ♕ blorp bleep ♕ but who remembers Baby-sitters Club because even though people stan Animorphs still BSC was great for then and is still great, oh jeez.

I know this is completely and utterly random and Fey is probably going ??? because of wow random ping but that was my shit growing up because of how Ann M Martin fleshed them all out.
♕ blorp bleep ♕
I AM, how did I inspire
go rimbaud
did you hear they're doing a netflix revival
July, July
For whatever reason your plurk about Russian Dolls and your decided favorite minor character just pinged that hard and random.

♕ blorp bleep ♕ Per your mention of artsy Asian girls not getting enough love in media.

ᚠᚱᛖᛃᚨ
how is netflix making all these shows?
ᚠᚱᛖᛃᚨ
anyway I was a member of the babysitter's club book club
♕ blorp bleep ♕
Ohhhh I SEE
♕ blorp bleep ♕
I read neither the babysitters club nor animorphs!!

They're going after making original content based off things that had a decent following and were good or have good nostalgia value but aren't going to be wildly expensive.

One of the main characters of the books is Claudia, who is Japanese-American and a lot of her stuff is dealing with not being the Perfect Asian Grade A Student Daughter since she's artistic and, quite frankly, a bit of a mess.

The books were all very excellent because while they weren't TRAUMA TIME special like Animorphs AMM it wasn't perfect life soft YA fiction.
♕ blorp bleep ♕
Aw that's nice!!

It was also

fun fact, ka applegate got started at scholastic ghostwriting for babysitters club

so without bsc we would not have animorphs

Yes.

BSC was just great and wholesome. I hope that Netflix pulls off its usual trick with making their YA-kid oriented adaptations accessible for adults, too.
dead characters
there's actually a line of babysitter's club graphic novels these days that are pretty popular!
HEY LADY
departed 👻 : THAT'S SO CHARMING? but yes I agree. I never got super into BSC but it was just Good Shit About Girls
Juliet
oh a hundred times yes
Juliet
man was that ever squad goals or what??
Juliet
A successful small business with your diverse group of cool gal-pals? dang i still want that life
Juliet
I can totally see how KA Applegate went from BSC to Animorphs because I mean
Juliet
totally different genres and tone, but they both DID do that "one narrator a book in a cycle in a series about a close knit group of high empathy friends who truly like each other"
Juliet
i can't think of other book series that quite nails that "diverse cast of kids who really genuinely like each other" tone
July, July
seriously. and not just diverse and being about building each other up, but while it was still a soft positive series AMM still made it clear issues existed in their world and there were problems.
July, July
instead of it being perfect and the issues coming from the children they watched only.
Juliet
too true!
Juliet
man what an underrated formative literary experience
