The first few arcs are generic shonen, but once you hit the Seabed Temple arc... It becomes good generic shonen

Like Asta's whole character for example, he would be super forgettable if this were a different series but he's a solid protag here. Seeing how he applies his Never Give Up™ mentally in his practical ways is fun to watch

plus he's a magic cripple who works really fucking hard, so it's easy to see how he's so inspiring to the black bulls

also the fights... BC does a great job in handling the teamwork/strategy aspect where every character gets a part to play

so most, if not, all of Asta's victory come from everyone else helping him and it's not just him getting a BIG POWER UP and one shotting the arc villain

and his rivalry with Juno is refreshing? he's the generic stoic pretty boy rival but I like how he has 200% trust and acknowledgement in Asta's abilities and sees him as a worthy rival
