I think the fact that Archie is a jaded mess ends up working in his favor with Darin because he's able to outright call Darin on his self-destructive bullshit
That said, Darin really wishes Archie would lighten up on himself. And he realizes this is the pot calling the kettle black, but he thinks Archie deserves happiness
also, bonus: Darin and Riptide: Darin is talking with Knock Out specifically because he wants to help Riptide get by and learn more about his culture to show that he's not such a gaping asshole. He wants to be Riptide's friend but he's also realizing more and more what a struggle it is to be Cybertronian on Earth
