I do not have a credit card and don't really know dick about them so grain of salt etc etc but I just don't see why you should have to make payments towards a purchase you know you didn't make and are actively contesting

like, you're cancelling the card anyway so they can just keep it frozen and you can get your new card and go on your merry way while this all gets investigated

I suppose it's a way for them to still get money out of you if their investigation turns up that it's a legitimate charge, but they could just...ask for the money later or send you to collections

I feel like there's been scams with presto where people sell the cards on Kijiji (like craigslist in Canada mostly)

It was my card with TD. I phoned them about it and we went through each charge to clarify which purchases were me and which were not. I only paid for my charges when I paid off the card. Then they gave me a new card.

during an investigation for fraud you make minimum payments on the credit card to avoid a late fee coz charges dont get removed...they just get reimbursed. and banks generally dont reimburse transactions until after an investigation coz

... a lot of people aren't trustworthy and make false claims sadly.

usually min repayments on a card here tho are 2% or $20.. whichever is higher and all interest charged is reimbursed

and most people have more than the fraud charge on the credit card so the minimum payment can be allocated to the other charges. example you have a $2k fraud charge but you bought $30 in groceries so that $20min goes towards the groceries which you needed to pay off anyway
