Why do people lie, when they can be caught so easily??

I just caught one of the employees of the management company of this hotel in a lie. He tried to tell me the bathrooms had been cleaned yesterday. However, he same dirt and mess that was there yesterday is still there now, in exactly the same places.

This person has lost any trust, respect, and credibility he had with me.
