There's going to be some salt in here and also spoilers for season 8

Every time I see Tumblr complaining about season 8 I'm torn between "hot take: season 8 isn't inherently bad just because Tina and Jimmy Jr. didn't kiss and JJ had to suffer minimal consequences for being shitty to Tina for once" and "yeah it was kind of a weak season"

When they were on point it was REALLY GOOD but there were so many episodes they dropped the ball and I'm not fond of how often Tina was humiliated in front of everyone for laughs/to drive the plot

And when they had good concepts that were poorly executed

Like, the babysitting episode still bugs the shit out of me because of the lesson of "Tina's a bad person for calling Tammy horrible even though Tammy's been awful to her since the day they've met and has done and said worse"

LIKE OH NO, TAMMY'S FEELINGS WERE HURT, LIKE SHE HASN'T EVER HURT TINA'S FEELINGS BEFORE

I am so protective of my cartoon child

Or the episode where Tina becomes a lifeguard because wow Bob and Linda have to be really fucking irresponsible to let one of their children be a poor swimmer when they grew up next to the beach

That just doesn't seem like something they'd do

I also love how the shippers spout off about how they love Tina/JJ because of the conflict aspect, and now that they tossed in some actual conflict it's bad writing and the show has jumped the shark
