[Computers] All I want is one AVI file. Is that so hard to ask?

I've been trying for HOURS tonight to convert an MKV into an AVI. Usually an MP4 works, so I use Handbrake, but VLC keeps wanting to shit itself with this MP4. But I don't have a program that'll do it because Freemake shat itself before (and reinstalling it tonight turns out that now the newest version bottlenecks conversions to get +
