the FMA manga and Brotherhood anime is really good about its antagonists... they're almost all interesting to watch and they differ in their outlook and motivations and ways of doing things

I like the 2003 anime as its own thing and in the early arcs as an expansion of brotherhood, BUT it really is its own thing at the end of the day. It's an AU

and this is still the most perfect ending it could have had, re: brotherhood and manga. It literally could not have ended any other way without using the stones and Ed got his own answer his way

RIP Hoenheim. I think I cried over him dying the first time too but this is a lot less sad as much as it is touching and a fantastic end to his own arc

after I read the reveal about Pride I buckled down to catch up on scanlations because it was SO SHOCKING and so pleasant to be unspoiled, I didn't want to be spoiled for anything else that would happen

i cried when i read the last manga volume with the final pages at the end. they weren't in the scanlations, they were like an unexpected gifts. Hohenheim ;___;

Part of what makes this so fantastic is that everyone has understandable motivations and, again the only one you really really hate for it is the one you're intended to hate for it and see as a complete monster (not to mention a giant scare for Ed on an ethical ground)
