Doable! There are deinonychus and smaller dinos in the more expanded monster manuals as well as near the back of the normal monster manual. So long as it doesn't surpass the medium size category (because in part your monster gets bigger as it gets stronger, if I recall), and you could just re-skin one of the ranger pet categories.

There's one for flying, one for terrestrial, one for bear-like creatures, soon and so forth.
