so if you ever have any questions about anything from food to small medical things to grooming issues to anything at all, feel free to reach out, okay?
Like, I have a terrier with a sensitive stomach and a couple of allergies but otherwise staunchly healthy and a little girl who was so malnourished as a puppy that she has special dietary needs now. So.
but yeah like most people when i am like "no u do not understand i have actively been researching and campaining for 20 years" go "you're 28/29 no you havne't that's an exaggeration" and i'm just NO YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND so now it's a Big Thing after all this time and i'm running in tiny circles in a state of panic
OKAY I HAVE ONE DOG BED SHOULD I GET ANOTHER DOG BED OKAY SO CLICKER, RIGHT, OKAY, CLICKER TRAINING YES OKAY WATER BOWL IS THIS WATER BOWL TOO BIG OKAY I GOT THE FOOD BOWL IS THAT THE WRONG FOOD BOWL WILL IT BE OKAY
IT SEEMS LIKE A GOOD BOWL BUT WHAT IF SHE CAN'T GET THE FOOD OUT OF IT OR WON'T EAT OR SOMETHING so i am banking on it being a good bowl but still panic
purina pro sport or somthing idr it has a purple bag it's got a little bag ANYWAY THE LADY AT THE RESCUE SAID THAT COSTCO MAKES VERY GOOD DOG FOOD SO I GOT A BIG BAG OF THAT BUt a little bag
yeah i know there's a lot of things that i really really don't like about purina and it's super expensive and i don't want to keep her on it but i don't want her to have an upset stomach so i got a little bag to transition
i was considering trying a raw food diet but the lady in charge of the rescue said that costco made quality dog food and also she recommended that over raw food so i was like OKAY
(Fruitables is an awesome company for little dietary supplements and treats like that. That have some great low-cal training treats and canned pumpkin and pourable sweet potato and pumpkin add-ins for food)
Honestly? I would wait until you have her and take her shopping and see about asking for samples? Usually local places are more accomodating about that, but not everywhere has good local pet supply places
like i said i got a kong and i'm thinking of packing it with kibble and freezing it with a bit of water so it stays in for some of her food as was recommended
there was this video that i found on youtube that this guy did who liked use kongs to feed and to help with anxiety and restlessness and things by packing them in some layers and freezing them to make it take longer and then the dog just goes to their bed and gets to lick it and the longer they lick and work the more food comes out and i was like
my aunt was going on about how you should never give dogs food inside their crate and i think that's stupid based on what i've seen because the whole point of crate training is giving dogs a safe happy place and how better to make it a safe happy place then to have it be where you get delicious food
I was trying on a bunch of collars while I was there and a lot wouldn't unclipped or anything you just pushed them over the head and I'd just call her and she'd trot over and stick her nose right in
but like when she was jumping up i was crouching down to meet her and she'd jump up basically enough that our heads were level and occasionally overshoot a bit and drop down immediately lol
we went outside for a bit - her and a bigger black boy who also came down to get his home - and they ran around for a little bit around this big backyard
because their necks are so muscular and thick and their heads are so narrow and smol that if you put a normal dog collar on them they will just walk right out of it
there's this classy little silver bone shape with a few pink rhinestones just at the very edge - like it's not all the way around just an accent - that i kind of like at petco
I've considered a harness and might end up getting one but because greyhounds have such deep chests and extreme proportions they're known for slipping them too
incidentally this is part of why you don't tie them up outside if they see a squirrel they could go so fast to try and chase it that they break their own necks
apparently she's doing better today and only had one accident but the lady in charge of the rescue said she had some blood in her stool so she took it to the vet and will hear back tomorrow
