No matter how much research I delve into about how cults work and prey on certain personality types and how people can be vulnerable to that type of environment...I still JUST DON'T GET IT. It's so difficult to wrap my mind around how people can become so brainwashed.

I never understood it either. Then I researched Jim Jones and the People's Temple/Jonestown. Then I got it.

A lot of good people got involved because of the social justice work that Jim Jones did. On the outside it seemed like he was doing great work and was truly helping people.

I mean, it got to them point where celebrities were showing up to their services. You figure things can't be bad if Jane Fonda is there.

A lot of people joined scientology because they wanted to make the world better, because that's one thing scientology sells

That's attracted a lot of celebrities over the years.

I think it's inherent in us all to want to 'pack', and preferably if that 'pack' have like minded people + missions to save the world, make the world a better place, retain purity of a sect etc etc etc.

The epic movies and dramas we watch all have the same essence in the core: "you and your pack against the world".

It's just that we see the fineprints of the cult after we sign up to it.
