[garden] another late melon sprout!!!! in a place where I have to figure out an inventive solution to protecting it until it is big enough...
skerple
it's right under a trellis
skerple
I mean I guess I could just. take the trellis out. there is no reason I can't put it back once the seedlings are all strong enough and deeply-rooted enough to be safe.
skerple
.... to clarify that unclear thought: I can take the trellis out and set up a bird-proof cover in the space it was occupying over the seedlings
skerple
also my very first wildflower has bloomed!!
skerple
there's still a bunch of greens in the smaller bed that I have no idea what the fuck they are, they look like radish greens but have a completely different texture
skerple
maybe some kind of lettuce?? idfk
skerple
also one of my turnips has some kind of wilt along the leaf edges that's taken out like 1/4? 1/3?? of the total surface on affected leaves
skerple
but it's Just That One Turnip
skerple
the ones on either side of it are fine.
skerple
maybe a root borer got it??
skerple
ANYWAY the seedling tents arrived today, tomorrow I'll go set them up
skerple
today I gotta finish homework even though I'm tired
skerple
I lied I put one of them up
skerple
the new melon and at least two sorghum seedlings are now tenderly shielded
skerple
gonna plant purslane later and put the other one over that.
skerple
my legume inoculant has been shipped, so I can plant the beans soon - I'll probably want to do a floating row cover over those because I bet sprouted beans would be fucking DELICIOUS to birds
skerple
maybe I'll buy some cheap dry beans from the store and sprout those, to distract the birds??
skerple
I think I'll plant some extra melons in the smaller bed too - by the time those come up, the ones in the boomerang bed should have rooted deeply enough to be safe, so I can move the tent
