Anybody got any good horror movie recommendations?

arwingyoshi
no straight up torture porn

vegan gloryhole
i liked It Follows but i recognize that as a character flaw

arwingyoshi
frickincheng: I like asian horror

arwingyoshi
rathaway: I have actually seen It Follows

vegan gloryhole
i've been dragged twice in the last month for liking It Follows as much as i do

arwingyoshi
it's not a perfect film, but it had its creepy moments

vegan gloryhole
i like the metaphor of It and the curse being like... how people sometimes use love and sex to keep the fear of death at bay

vegan gloryhole
moreso than any of the actual creepy stuff

vegan gloryhole
also how the whole movie feels like it's happening in like a weird pocket dimension that's sort of surreal and dreamlike and removed from time

arwingyoshi
well, it is kind of reminiscent of those nightmares where something is after you

arwingyoshi
though first time I watched, it during the opening scene I was like "heels are not good running away shoes!"

Bing Bong
I love "Disturbia" with Shia LeBoeuf. It's not, like, stereotypical "horror film" I don't think, but what gets me is how very real it is/could be

arwingyoshi
noted

arwingyoshi
I might have seen parts of it on tv

Bing Bong
if you like psychological thriller, I liked "Circle" (2015)

Bing Bong
twist ending was good

arwingyoshi
psychological horror is good

arwingyoshi
the only horror I don't really like is the kind heavy on jump scares or stuff that's just a nonstop gore fest, because that's not scary or fun

arwingyoshi
and jump scares are good when used sparingly

mulberry
Sauna!!!!! It's this lovely creepy scandinavian historical piece

mulberry
my hands down favorite horror movie

mulberry
flawless as a historical and stunning horror

mulberry
the Whispering Corridors series from korea is one of the best. The first is now a bit hard to watch because it's so cliche but the thing is that it's the movie that all those cliches came from. It really defined the current asian horror phenomenon

mulberry
A Tale of Two Sisters is wonderfully twisty and psychological and also just FUCKING TERRIFYING, also Korean, also beautiful

arwingyoshi
marlowe_tops: I've heard of Sauna, but never actually sat down to watch it

mulberry
Just recently watched The Ritual on Netflix which was actually fantastic?? Way better than I expected, thoroughly enjoyed it.

mulberry
House on Haunted Hill is my favorite classic horror even though some of the scares I laughed my way through bc they didn't necessarily age well

arwingyoshi
I've seen the original version of that movie with Vincent Price

mulberry
YES THAT ONE

mulberry
YES

arwingyoshi
love Vincent Price

arwingyoshi
classic horror is amazing

mulberry
I always love The Others, I'm a total sucker for that kind of gothic horror and I love nicole kidman

arwingyoshi
that's a creepy movie

mulberry
The Grudge is good, though that movie FUCKED ME UP

arwingyoshi
original or remake?

mulberry
I watch a lot of asian horror, but that one I've only seen the american version. I'm too scared to watch the original.

mulberry
like, my list of things that I was scared of after watching that movie is ridiculous:

arwingyoshi
[nod]

mulberry
bus windows, stairwells, hallways, bathtubs, showers, asian women, long dark hair, televisions on static, televisions turned off, comforters (like the kind on my bed), the upper corners of rooms

mulberry
I could not sleep for MONTHS

arwingyoshi
I was scared of the closet after watching The Babadook

mulberry
babadook was great

arwingyoshi
I liked Sinister too

arwingyoshi
8mm has never been so terrifying

arwingyoshi
never move into a murder house, everybody

Spooky Shadow
Hush is a good one and I heard The Train to Busan is good too.

Spider
heh, I think I've already recommended everything I've seen to you before

Spider
for those I haven't rambled to before, but my favorite is The Collector. It's more of a slasher than straight horror, and there's gore, and it looks like it could become a torture porn movie but never does.

Spider
It's just a twist on the home invasion subgenre that has this great dreamlike quality to most of it, all the characters make intelligent decisions based on what they know, the lead is great at making you feel for them and the killer is played really dang well too.

Spider
Also has anyone seen Pontypool because I've heard good things about that

arwingyoshi
Spooky Shadow
: Hush was good
