i thought i'd be able to maybe pin down a clear headcanon for the ending but it just raises more questions???

1) kaede has a vague memory ALREADY of that helmet thing possibly brainwashing them so??????? WAS THAT A PARTIALLY TRUE MEMORY

2) i noticed before already but kaede, shuichi, etc already knew their own names before the flashback light, so it's obv the audition tapes are fake BUT

kaede is pissed/frustrated that no one helped her when she was kidnapped, and that didn't seem like a fake memory since they made sure to get rid of it

3) i think most people assume this too but it's nice rewatching and confirming that most of their personalities were the same, just the memories were changed

4) Rantaro already knows what's going on obviously but he's really confused about the setup?? Like I just assume he doesn't remember how it was set up during his last round but also he's very much like uuuuh this is a lot of production set up what's going on

AND OTHER THINGS AS I WATCH that make me mad about the inconsistency AS IT SHOULD but it does help me confirm a couple things about the ending

like for one I'm pretty sure Tsumigi isn't always the villain, she's probably always cosplaying junko or another character and guiding people to the Twist

like she was gunning super hard for Kaede's evil twin!!! before things went off the rails

and given how hard she was pushing it feels like she was trying her damnedest to avoid another fourth wall breaking, since I assume that's what happened in the prior game too

SO IT MAKES IT SLIGHTLY EASIER TO ACCEPT taht yea the games have been going on this long, just usually they all lead to their scripted endings, or at least something close enough

THERE ARE A GOOD FEW WAYS TO LOOK AT CH 4 but in general i see it as kokichi learns shit, knows miu's trying to kill him, does genuinely think a mercy kill for everyone would be probably be best end

tag teams with gonta, figures some more shit out, tries to get shuichi on his team either to a) mislead him and get mercy kill ending or

kokichi realizes gonta left the toilet paper behind, realizes they might get found out, makes back up plan to be the Worst Ever in the trial, straight up gives everyone a hint at the beginning of the trial that HEY YOU CAN VOTE OUT TWO PEOPLE AT ONCE, WINK WINK NUDGE NUDGE RLY WOULDN'T MIND DYING RIGHT NOW

didn't know about gonta's memory loss of course but before that knows there's a super high chance of them voting for him and still pushes for it despite getting on shuichi's case about truth/lies during the trial

THE THING ABOUT THIS IS looking back, since it wasn't stated before explicitly, monokuma could have said lol no kokichi masterminded the plot so he gets executed instead

obviously he doesn't since gonta's the real killer but i was thinking about what would have happened if they had went that way

because more than likely had they gone that way, everything would have played out how tsumugi wanted

which frees up tsumugi to pace out the made up plot how she wants, with gonta probly despairing again and killing someone

then the next case something happening probably because of kaito's illness or maki being desperate to help him

then it'd probably eventualy end with 3 people standing and tsumigi would be like I'M ACTUALLY KAEDE'S TWIN SISTER

and the end with the classic hope vs despair, keebo sacrifices himself, two people live, the cycle goes on

the longer time passes honestly I do like Tsumigi as 'over stressed tv producer villain'. STILL MAD AT HOW IT WAS EXECUTED but tsumigi herself is fine
