英語國家朝野今天對fuck字的態度，可以見於一首小詩。一九七一年，英國詩人拉金（Philip Larkin）發表了一首《詩曰》（This Be the Verse），全詩不過三段，每段不過四行，而且押韻，容易成誦，不久就膾炙人口。
這首教人不要生兒育女的小詩，一九九五年獲英國廣播公司Bookworm（書癡）節目觀眾推舉為The Nation's Top100 Poems（全國一百首最優秀詩篇）之一。

They fuck you up, your mum and dad.
They may not mean to, but they do.
They fill you with the faults they had
And add some extra, just for you.

But they were fucked up in their turn
By fools in old-style hats and coats,
Who half the time were soppy-stern
And half at one another’s throats.

Man hands on misery to man.
It deepens like a coastal shelf.
Get out as early as you can,
And don’t have any kids yourself.
