he actually said somewhere that Final Fantasy VII getting marketed as a cinematic game was one of the reasons he tried to make MGS, because he didn't like how 7 used a mixed SD sprite/battle model/FMV approach
he also tweeted a while back that he was having dinner with SE's CEO and apparently introduced himself with "hello, please make Final Fantasy VII Remake"
it's a shame the story doesn't really deal with his issues quite as well as Ep Prompto does with Prompto's issues, but I guess it works on the grounds that...
...idk, I feel Ignis's chronic overcompensation comes from a place where he doesn't really like himself and he feels if he isn't holding down the accelerator all the time he'll have to deal with that
he's also the one we know least about, simply because so much of his personality is artificial - he doesn't like cooking, he doesn't life coffee, he doesn't need glasses, he's dressing that way as a uniform, that's not his real accent... what actually IS he. he probably doesn't want to know himself.
so EpIg works because it shows him pmuch reaching the point where his absolute denial of reality in pursuit of his perfectionism lets him actually change reality.
because yeah, he might be a bundle of affectations, but the ultimate core of his competence and drive to do anything to fulfil his job is real and admirable
not saying he doesn't speak Royal Language but the idea of him being the mostest Royalist is absolutely a put-on and, considering the actor's background, an intentional character choice
