I don't do Christmas - Lunar New Year is our thing, roughly end of January/beginning of February.
Bee (they/them)
and I go apoplectic if I see the term Chinese New Year by the way
Bee (they/them)
not that Lunar New Year is better because that infringes on the Jewish new year, but I haven't found an alternative

Bee (they/them) that’s so cool. How do you guys celebrate?
Bee (they/them)
Uh... visit relatives' houses... eat until we can't move...
Bee (they/them)
it's aggravating because throughout the LNN all we eat are the traditional dishes
Bee (they/them)
every single damn invited meal =))

little kids get red envelopes with lucky money in it, the majority of parents confiscate it
Bee (they/them)
adults dread that because they're the ones who have to give out cash

my family's personal tradition is to have an extended family concert, during which my virtuosi cousins demonstrate their piano chops and i look like a potato
Bee (they/them)
a visit to the local temple and pagoda
Bee (they/them)
that is carried out after midnight - we have to choose someone who was born on a suitable year to be the first one to re-enter the house

we celebrate Makar Sankranti. it's a little like winter solstice. according to Hindu solar calendar it's the day the sun transits from 'Dhanu'(Sagittarius) to Makar(Capricorn)
ZorehAngelique
regionally we Bengalis celebrate Pous Sankranti on the same day which is basically a harvest festival

on this day we mostly prepare "Pithe-puli" which is a category of desserts made of rice flour, milk and jaggery/molasses. we usually spend it with our extended family. but this is very regional. I have no idea what rest of India does lol
