probably the capital city with the most temples per square feet???

we went to the oldest, wat si saket, which survived multiple invasions and has something like 7000 buddha statues
beachcryptid
and then we crossed the road to ho pra keo, which used to have an emerald buddha, although its now in thailand
beachcryptid
then we crossed town to that luong, where there is a reclining buddha and one of the trees of the type buddha sat under
beachcryptid
there is also a statue of the guy who built the stupa out front and a new and massive temple for important dignitary types
beachcryptid
it's also host to a yearly festival - which starts next week! the dancers were practicing when we got there and there were replica old-style lao houses being built on site
beachcryptid
after that we dropped by the lao arc de triomph - which the locals call a vertical runway, as it was built with concrete that was supposed to be used to build a runway!

the official name is patuxai and you can climb up the inside to look out. it was never finished due to lack of funds

I had the oddest coffee at a local cafe - peppermint, apparently!
beachcryptid
and watched the sun go down on the mekong before heading to the night market
beachcryptid
decided to walk to khop chai deu, which is reportedly one of the top 10 restaurants in vientiane but alas could not finish dinner
beachcryptid
very tasty tho
beachcryptid
also there is a pokestop LITERALLY outside my hotel
beachcryptid
which is very nice and maybe 5min walk from the night market lol
