Lynx and Paint
[MLP] Hey pony persons, I know it's mostly small potatoes after the movie came out, but an episode that I boarded on is airing tomorrow morning!
Lynx and Paint
Hope that people like it, at least for me it was real fun to board on.

Out of curiosity... when it comes to "boarding," what elements of your work do we actually experience when watching an episode?
Lynx and Paint
quite a few things end up getting altered/changed/updated/cut if the director feels they need revision, but basically the boarder is kind of the front-lines mini-director for that section.
Lynx and Paint
so all of the action, the expressions and acting, the composition, the camera moves and cuts, sometimes even rudimentary lighting, the boarder chooses
Lynx and Paint
like it's basically my job to read the script/listen to the VAs lines and decide "how will this look on screen?" And then from there the revisionists revise it and fix my mistakes, and the director keeps plusing it through the rest of the pipeline
Lynx and Paint
and the layout artists/animators are all basically following the guide that the board artist (and the story editor, since they're usually the ones putting the animatic together) has drawn
Lynx and Paint
so it's...kinda hard to describe, because it's essentially "roughly what you see happening"
Lynx and Paint
control over story elements or designs vary wildly depending on what the show is and how the director works.
Goldbug
So basically, "I decided where everything on the screen would be and how it would move," then someone else did the literal artwork and animation.
Lynx and Paint
yup, pretty much

I'll try be able to see it when I can <333
