This actually relates to what dkronfeld says often - that just knowing know to do martial arts (in this case, target shooting) doesn't mean you can react correctly in an emergency.

Stray bullets kill people just as well as targeted bullets.

Frag the 2nd Amendment, I just don't trust that people are properly trained to handle all this ordnance they want to own to be 'free'.

With shooting, it's doubly so: You have to be able to act/react under extreme pressure (which can't be done without much intense and realistic training) and be committed to taking a life, without hesitation.

And yeah, I do go on and on about it

Also one good point to consider that a lot of 2nd amendment folks don't tend to: so what happens if you're not the only 'good guy' with a gun.

and you pull yours out to save the day, then good guy 2 sees you pull a gun, and thinks you're with the original shooter and shoots you...

they always seem to get caught on the idea of IF I WERE THERE I'D PULL OUT MY GUN AND SHOOT THE BAD GUY SAVE DAY

and then what if there's a third Good Guy, sees good guy 2 pull a gun on good guy 1, and is like 'oh shit i have to save him' and... pulls his gun on that guy... its like cascading guns....

Those are called second-order second amendment shootings.

I feel like it is less about guns and more about the hearts and minds of people. I could have a million guns and I would never start massacre-ing people.

But the framers of the 2nd amendment could not possibly have envisioned automatic weapons.

It only took five people to decide that the well regulated militia part didn't count.
