Poppin'Squall
So, finished off Samus Returns last night (So spoilers within)
Poppin'Squall
It did a great job of re-inventing the older game (being Metroid 2)
Poppin'Squall
You can see where they took visual cues from each area, while giving it a new look and individual feel.
Poppin'Squall
And the new Metroid fights are incredible
Poppin'Squall
Zetas and Omegas no longer just randomly float around trying to ...tackle you to death, but rather leap and claw/fire acid and lasers at you. even Gammas and Alphas get into the later in that regard
Poppin'Squall
And they've added 2 new boss fights as well
Poppin'Squall
first off, a giant...what I assume is Chozo in design...digging robot.
Poppin'Squall
Diggernaut as the wiki calls it
Poppin'Squall
It just teases you throughout the run, taking powerups, chasing you with its digging impliments and generally being an asshole. Until you kill it, and Samus shots it in the face when it tries to get back up
Poppin'Squall
^so badass
Poppin'Squall
of course, Arachnus returns to give you the spring ball
Poppin'Squall
but the second added boss made me have a 'WTF are you doing here!?" moment:
Poppin'Squall
'Proteus' Ridley
Poppin'Squall
basically...he's shedding parts of his Meta Ridley form in an attempt to show how he got back to normal for Super Metroid
Poppin'Squall
immune to missiles, but not beams for some reason
Poppin'Squall
...and apparently you can counter an attack I just decided to dodge the entire time. Frick
Poppin'Squall
Overall, I loved it, despite geting the worst possible ending by taking WAAAAYYYY too long (first play completely blind. whatre ya gonna do?)
Poppin'Squall
Oh..and the time slowing ability needs to come abck again. SOOOO many puzzles you could make with it
