[Tabletop Summaries] Valorous X-Men for 08/24!
EsperBot
The X-Men continued their battle against Daedalus and his robot animal friends.
EsperBot
COntinually hiding behind shields and good rolls, Daedalus began inching across the battlefield towards the teleporter, but he was intercepted by Kelpie and Fawn before he could get there, and Fawn slammed him into some equipment for the KO.
EsperBot
Bruja Muerte, now at better health thanks to some healing by Fawn, shot down ICARUS-2, and Fawn took out ICARUS-1, and then after eating a ton of chip damage Fawn finally finished the robo gorilla off.
EsperBot
Fawn MVP.
EsperBot
The X-Men have won! But as Daedalus returns to consciousness, he reveals it to be a hollow victory.
EsperBot
At his instruction, they switch on a monitor, and discover that Lorentz is on the air. He's in Philadelphia, he's got a bomb powered by him that will blow up most of the city, and it's going to go off in mere minutes.
EsperBot
Fortunately...our party has just come into possession of a teleporter, and after Gravity slams Daedalus into a few equipment banks, he tells them how to turn it on.
EsperBot
Fawn ties him up at Kelpie's instruction, and the party passes through the portal, and find themselves high up, in a half-constructed skyscraper in downtown Philadelphia, on a platform with Lorentz and the bomb.
EsperBot
Lorentz seems a little impressed by them...but then says he has no time to mess around with them
EsperBot
and then Dragonbreath and Bruja Muerte get pulled right through the floor by an unknown force.

IMPORTANT NOTES
EsperBot
1. LEVEL CAP IS NOW 5
EsperBot
2. Since we're all leveling up, this seems like a good time to clarify what house rules we're playing under
EsperBot
Because honestly I'd forgotten myself.
EsperBot
SO OUR HOUSE RULES ARE
EsperBot
a. Great Accuracy and Great Evasion are mutually exclusive, as are Impaired Accuracy and Impaired Evasion. If you have GA and GE gets applied to you, GA goes away and you have GE instead. Same for IA and IE. No tech can apply both.
EsperBot
b. Great Accuracy and Great Evasion cost 8 SP instead of 6. Impaired Accuracy and Impaired Evasion cost 4 SP instead of 3.
EsperBot
c. Overdriving for Stamina gives you 2 increments of stamina instead of a full bar
EsperBot
d. Bravado is a Fixed skill, and each season the amount of Valor you start fights with increases by 1 (so 0 in season one, 1 in season 2, etc)
EsperBot
That's all effective as of your level 5
NekoIncardine
Noted!
EsperBot
(Well, except for the stamina one, which is effective immediately)
EsperBot
3. I...want to have an OP theme for Season 2
EsperBot
It makes things really hype, and I like that
EsperBot
SO
EsperBot
send me your suggestions, and we'll put them to a vote.
EsperBot
This finale will take at least two weeks, so, submission deadline in a week, to be extended if need be.
EsperBot
Submissions should be a a song easily available in linkable format (on youtube, etc) that are well-suited to be an opening theme!
EsperBot
Lyrical content is less important than tone.
EsperBot
OH AND
EsperBot
4. Those of you whose superhero outfits are not particularly privacy-protecting...may want to consider your options there. I'm just saying.
Vehrec
Haha the hood and disruptive cyberpunk face paint are not just for show.
NekoIncardine
Still haven't come up with Gravity's actual outfit at all. X_x
EsperBot
You don't need to, like, draw it, just have a general concept haha.
NekoIncardine
I'm thinking Gravity favors a half-mask type thing, probably influenced by some terrible fiction she read at some point, other than that tho...
EsperBot
OH RIGHT I FORGOT TO DO A MECHANICAL BREAKDOWN
EsperBot
So first this scene was a stealth-based challenge scene.
EsperBot
The party moves at 5 spaces each so nobody got left behind, and as they moved throught he maps they stepped across invisible sensor zones, upon which Daedalus got to make a roll to detect them
EsperBot
and Daedalus got a roll at the end of each round.
EsperBot
The detection meter went to 6.
EsperBot
At the end, when they got to the room he was in, they each had to make rolls any time they stepped through his cone of vision.
EsperBot
If the party got in range before he caught them, they got a surprise round!
EsperBot
Atmospherically, I think this scene worked pretty well, thanks in large part to me spending a fucking eternity getting the dynamic lighting set up.
EsperBot
However, mechanically it had two problems.
EsperBot
The first is that I didn't take the valor economy into account, like, at ALL.
EsperBot
Well, I did, but I vastly underestimated its effects.
EsperBot
At the beginning of the scene, it was challenging
EsperBot
and right at the end the sheer number of rolls finally ran out the valor pool
EsperBot
but in between the party had so much Valor that there was really no danger of failing a roll.
EsperBot
The second is, as noted in last week's summary
EsperBot
I fucking misunderstood ambush round rules HARD
EsperBot
so the reward for stealthing good wasn't as much as it should have been.
EsperBot
WHOOPS
EsperBot
The combat scene:
EsperBot
Daedalus, a level 5 Elite, and his three robot pals (ICARUS 1 through 3), who are level 5 Soldiers.
EsperBot
Daedalus was a Spirit/Int/Guts Balanced Fighter build with a strong barrier he likes to hide behind.
EsperBot
He had attack nodes! But he died too fast to use them.
EsperBot
Each of the ICARUS models was a different build. ICARUS-1, the robot cat, was STR/SPR, ICARUS-2, the robot birb, was DEX/SPR, and ICARUS-3, the robot Gorilla with Street Fighter moves, was STR/GUTS.
EsperBot
By accident, Daedalus moving to places where he could use his barrier made it look like he was running for the portal machine, but that was never actually a thing, haha.
NekoIncardine
Oh.
EsperBot
Just a happy accident!
