it's gonna be great. you won't be able to see much of the eclipse without using a pinhole to project it into another surface, or eclipse glasses, but still worth giving it a try
for actually getting dark, you'd probably want to be in an area where 90-95% or more of the sun's light gets blocked out which yeah isn't going to be easy for someone without good transportation. my state would probably be in the 80-90% range which is why I flew down to Nashville for this
my job's good wages and paid vacation made this possible, otherwise I probably would have taken a super cheap bus here and back... and been uncomfortable there and back
