MAAR'd! Not sure what to do now, though.
StarWarsEURebel
What's that mean?
ShaynaIsHere
Mark All As Read.
ChickletLARP
Never MAAR a library. That would be a sad thing.
GrayArcadian
Thankfully, there are contingency plans for that happening.
ShaynaIsHere
Indeed.
StarWarsEURebel
How can you mark a whole library?
GrayArcadian
A couple of ways, and none of them are pretty.
GrayArcadian
There's your usual fire, flood, Act of God shit. This is one of the reasons the bathrooms are not in the most convenient places in the building in part.
GrayArcadian
Then there's assholes like ISIS and your general warfare. There's a lot of interesting stories about librarians with vans moving reference stacks a few hours before troops move in.
GrayArcadian
And finally, there's the ebook problem. E-books are not subject to the same copyright protections or access rights that paper is. what you get with an ebook is a perma-lease, which can go wrong. More often in libraries what you get is access to the material x number of times, after which it goes bye-bye.
GrayArcadian
So what can go wrong with an e-book lease? There was one of those moments in 2009 which will make you believe in Library Gods.
GrayArcadian
Out of all the authors this could happen with, right?
GrayArcadian
There's also the situation I'm currently in at work where we had shitty software for tracking the books. Books are all there (we think). the records are in a format only one program can read, so transferring over records to a more functional system isn't possible.
GrayArcadian
So that's how to MAAR a library.
