The Fool
I can't decide if I should switch to iphone or get another android. (thinking)
The Fool
As much as I can't afford it, I think I really am going to have to get another phone.
The Fool
(my current phone is a galaxy s6, but I've already had it replaced once and am having the same problem with it again now)
Ali Jade
Same. I still owe on my s6, but it's being a bitch. Might need an upgrade.
The Fool
Yeah. I really liked my s6 for a long time before it started having problems though.
curieosity。
what about a more affordable model? some phones out there are really expensive ,but there are quite a few that are under $150
The Fool
Hmm IDK. I kind of feel like I use my phone enough that it's worth getting a nice one? Just in the sense that... I pretty much never touch a computer anymore.
The Fool
Though it would be nice not having to pay on one for two years.
The Fool
I just don't want to get anything that can't basically be my only device.
curieosity。
ah. then that's not something I can understand all that well since i can't imagine wanting to do most things on a phone
mai
don't get an iPhone xp
The Fool
HAHA
curieosity。
I like having a mouse xD
The Fool
curieosity。 : well, when I was doing stuff like roleplaying I didn't like doing that on the phone but like
mai
from what I've been told and have seen with my mother, a lot of the apple tech support people will just lie to you if you're having phone trouble and tell you to get a new one
The Fool
that's only because dreamwidth sucks on the phone
curieosity。
what about when you need to do copy/paste? a lot of times that's really difficult/awkward to do on a phone
The Fool
aside from dreamwitdh I kind of do everything on a phone?
The Fool
Hmm IDK? I mean it can be a little harder but I don't usually work with LARGE amounts of text?
curieosity。
agreed though, DW sucks to use on a phone
curieosity。
I hate phone tags
The Fool
but I've mostly been doing plurk/facebook/watching stuff/reading stuff these days
curieosity。
I've been thinking of getting a new phone but mainly for two small reasons: not enough app space, and the battery could last longer. pretty much beyond that I've been satisfied with mine
The Fool
what kind do you have?
mai
personally I love my s7 >> it takesgood pictures
curieosity。
but then I mostly just read news through a few apps, use finance apps, and browse facebook.
The Fool
Mm, yeah, I was considering just upgrading to s7 (or 8, but that would be way more expensive)
The Fool
but then also like... IDK? with the problems I had with the s6 I was tempted to jump ship to try an iphone XP
The Fool
Except I feel like it would annoy me for having to use all new marketplaces and apps.
curieosity。
ah. well I am biased against all iproducts so I won't be of help in whether to jump ship xD
curieosity。
< refuses to use itunes, iphones, ipods, ipads, etc.
curieosity。
maybe someone who can be more objective in that assessment will chime in
The Fool
(LOL)
unoiled snake
my friend has an S7, I could ask her about it? like, if she's still satisfied with it. she got it sometime last year.
The Fool
nods!
prpl pen
lg stylo is nice and versatile but not super pricey
しゅっぱい
i'm also biased against iproducts, but... i mean, it's not without reason. they're super expensive, not any better, and in terms of access to apps and the like, frequently much worse
しゅっぱい
the control they take over what apps are and aren't allowed to be sold for use on their devices is enough all by itself to make me give them the finger
しゅっぱい
personally i've always been happy with my samsungs, including my s6 (until japanese customs broke it, anyway ), but if you're not sure about that, there are other good brands that are probably cheaper
しゅっぱい
like lg and huawei
The Fool
yeah. I had an LG that I loved for years, actually.
The Fool
but I have really enjoyed my s6 until it broke
The Fool
really my issue was switching to iPhone is just... how much not being able to use all the same stuff would affect me
The Fool
I might wind up just upgrading to the next galaxy but I was wondering if anyone had a specific phone that they were really excited about and raving about
mai
s7!!!
mai
it's good
The Fool
do you have issues with your battery on the S7?
mai
nope, I never have
The Fool
oh nice!
mai
it might go faster or slower depending on how much I use it
mai
but it's never dropped overly quickly. the fastest it drops is when I'm playing Pokemon go and it takes 2 to 4 hours
The Fool
nods
The Fool
yeah pokemon go can kill anything (LOL)
The Fool
I always used a battery pack to play
Alicia
I have an s7, AMA :-)
Alicia
it might be cheaper now with the s8 out
nɑnɑmin
mai : I've never had that experience before. they've always done everything they could to fix a problem rather than tell you to buy a new one. though I've also luckily only had problems while under warranty, so it was fixed/replaced for free.
nɑnɑmin
as for whether to switch or not... I love my iphone, but idk how much I'd recommend making the switch from android to iOS.
nɑnɑmin
my first experience with a smartphone was an iphone and if someone hands me an android phone to help them with something I'm like "how do I do the thing?"
nɑnɑmin
what I would suggest is going to a phone/apple store or a best buy or something and try out one of the model iphones.
nɑnɑmin
the other thing with iphones is that there's no way to up the storage you have on the device unless you get a phone with more space on it. there is nowhere to put a micro sd card.
nɑnɑmin
that being said, I love my iphone and find it really easy to use. I can copy and paste things on it easily. screenshots are super easy to take. there's icloud that you can back up your photos, settings, contacts, and apps to. the camera on it is nice. I like the size, shape and weight.
nɑnɑmin
it just comes down to what you want/can afford. they're very nice phones, but don't make the switch unless you like the way they operate better than you do an android phone.
nɑnɑmin
also, I'd suggest while you're checking it out, to see if the apps you like to use are available in the app store.
nɑnɑmin
another thing I love about the iphone is that without needing any special apps, you can text message any other iphone user in the world with their phone number free of charge. but there's so many other ways and places to talk with people that it's not as big of a selling point as it was when I first got mine.
The Fool
mm thanks for all the suggestions!!
The Fool
I need to get my phone from my cell company so that I can put it on my plan ( because I really can't afford to outright buy phone right now) but I think you're right that I should definitely go in and play with one instead of ordering it online
nɑnɑmin
Yeah. You don't want to get stuck with a phone you decide you don't like.
Puliway
if you need an affordable phone and dont mind falling back on windows (which means a lot less apps, but a HUGE price drop)
Puliway
I've used Nokia Lumia and found it functional enough to get by?
