it's weird because as things like cosplay are becoming more mainstream (if i mention i've gone to a convention people usually ask if i dress up), the effort and creativity it takes to participate in those hobbies is still seen as a bit weird and pathetic

one of my best IRL friends is someone i met because of my ex whom i met through RP so she is aware of it, but she's deep into fandom so she doesn't think it's weird. most of my other IRL friends i met through DWRP or they RP in other mediums on their own, actually. now that i think about it. >>;
