I've brought it in twice for the same problem so far - the check engine light

It happened a third time on May 5th and I called up and they were like

"Yeah we want you to take it to the dealership now. Go there and we'll pay for it"

"Okay but my 90 day warranty is up on May 24th, what if they can't repair it in time?"

"We'll cover it."

So the earliest the dealership could get me in was this morning. I dropped it off at 7:30 and they promised they'd give me a call when the diagnostics were done

3:30, I call them, They give me a rushed "we're looking at it, we haven't found the problem yet!"

So I call Carmax and they go "okay well you're a day over your 90 day warranty, soooooo...."

I go "uh, no, you fuckers. This happened beforehand and I specifically asked about this scenario and you said it was cool."

"Okay well we THINK it should be fine but tell the dealership to fax over a bill. Really? We told you to go to a dealership? That doesn't sound like us. Okay, whatever."

Call the dealership back, they go "don't call us, we'll call you."

Motherfucker, I'm supposed to pick my car up in 45 minutes. You had 8 hours to work on it

have they actually found anything wrong with it the previous times the light went on? because I've had cars where that light goes on for stupid reasons, like the gas tank cap wasn't tightened enough after fueling

No, it's totally the gas cap, but it keeps coming on

It's the sealant around the gap cap, not the tightening itself

But they also just replaced the brakes and brake pads and this is a 4 year old car, what else is going to happen to it

IDK, maybe I'm completely out of whack, but the whole point of buying a new-ish car was so I wasn't dragging it down to get repairs constantly.

Ah unfortunately I'm not super up on consumer rights. I can see what I can read up on rights and remedies and such. Because this doesn't sound okay.

I had to replace my gas cap on my mustang when it started doing that too. You can pick one up from an auto parts store if it comes down to it

Ugh. Camped out at the dealership now. Car isn't ready because the scanner keeps crashing. I really would like life to stop being inconvenient at any time

Like I would have liked a car to not have a check engine light come on a month after I bought it. Or barring that, have it be fixed the first or second time I brought it in. Or barring that, it being looked at on time at the third place. Or barring that, not having to fight to get reimbursed
