based on previous development chatter, it probably means that mapmakers will be able to create new blocks and items

it will also mean the Mojang will be able to add new blocks much more quickly

I'm hoping that eventually, everything in FTB will be available via the standard interfaces. And people will still complain that there's "no API", because they never noticed

API just means a standardised interface for programmers (other than Mojang) to do stuff to. All mods right now essentially use guesswork to do things, and sometimes things change. Bukkit is/was an API, but not an official one. Mojang bought them with the intent of making it into an official one, iirc, but then <DRAMA> so I think they gave up on that approach
