Step 1- wake up late

2- remember that class is in a different room than normal because we're doing a special assignment thing in the computer lab

3- run late, so you're going to catch the last possible bus for your 12:30 class

4- at bus stop, notice a new email from the class thing

5- "your assignment recorded attendance has been graded @10:30"

6- panic

7- spend like a solid five minutes on the verge of tears because you suddenly can't remember if your class is actually a 10:30 class and you just slept through it

8- eventually manage to figure out that apparently they've been taking attendance this whole time and you just didn't know, and your class is at 12:30, and everything is fine, but still have the adrenaline jitters and the feeling of wanting to cry

TL;DR step one in determining a watershed restoration plan. It's number crunching but involved learning a new thing I never knew excel could do and having to fiddle with it muchly.

super duper useful but super duper fiddly because the default settings are Bad and Useless but you can only change those one at a time

so you have to move all your data points to the right place and format them the right way individually

also if you format them and then move them it doesn't save the formatting and you have to redo it

also it renames everything and there's not enough room to see the whole name so if the list isn't in the right order then FUCK YOU because it's truncated so you can only see the part of the name that's now identical to all the others

also also it says you can rename those things to what you want but it lies

also also also you have to then copypaste the data 'cause excel doesn't like doing calculations with it

also also also also once you click out of the pivot table you can never get back in to adjust it ever again, it just exists in perpetuity and if you need to fix something you need to start over again from scratch

they're very useful for turning huge data tables into smaller, more easily referenced, more useful composite data tables though

once you get how it works it's pretty simple, it's just still very fiddly to the point where our assignment was literally "take this data we are handing you and make four tables" and it took me an hour to do so
