Rage plurk. My province's bus company shuts down at the end of the month... and there's no Greyhound service in our area.

Not only will this severely restrict the travel of seniors (which my province has a hugely disproportionate number of) it means my only way to visit Amy, something I've tried to do monthly for a few years, is now a very expensive 5 hour drive, complicated by the fact her building has no place to park.

Additionally the drive (without parking) is likely to be around $180, when the bus tickets were $150. Parking... I dunno what it goes for, might be around $80 for a weekend visit

timeywimey : okay that was the best response bc it actually made me snort laugh in the hall

D8 WTF, that's horrible! /hug
your ghost host
Our provincial budget this year is a slap in the face. STC completely toasted, libraries reduced to less than half of what they had. On mobile so if anyone wants to add the flames on the side of my face gif from clue that'd be great
your ghost host
Infychu : if I'm driving, I might be able to leave my van at Marissa's parents' place, but her mom is on a super restricted diet so I can't even comp them with baking
your ghost host
Miiiight make it up every two months if I'm driving? The drive time is not so bad but fuck financial strain it's adding. And then poor Amy has no way to get home unless someone drives out for her.

You ar3 all good friends and I want to thank you for giving me a collective sympathetic ear
Rain_Demi
Of course!
CricketMomJenn
That's so awful.
#ConnorArmy
for you and Amy both!
StormDracona
Agh that is so messed up.
ʟʏʟɪᴛʜ
ugh wtf. They should provide alternatives :/
ᴜsᴇʟᴇss ʟᴇsʙɪᴀɴ
What the shit?
ᴜsᴇʟᴇss ʟᴇsʙɪᴀɴ
That's so much bullshit. Why would you shut down a bus company that so many people need to survive?
your ghost host
ᴜsᴇʟᴇss ʟᴇsʙɪᴀɴ : especially when it's to such an extent 'but what about my medical pass?' is on the 3 or 4 point FAQ. We only have a handful of cities big enough to support hospitals large enough to have various tests, let alone surgeries and shit; my town's hospital is one of the more functional, and even then its OR has been repurposed for dental surgeries
CricketMomJenn
:-( So this might literally kill people.
your ghost host
CricketMomJenn : 'personal and private sectors will hopefully compensate' is pretty much the only answer anyone's getting to "but what will we do now". For urgent access, people are likely to get ambulances... but it's still going to make medical maintenance and preventative stuff more expensive and vastly more troublesome to actually access
CricketMomJenn
They won't compensate. They never have.
CricketMomJenn
:-( Yeah
your ghost host
I don't expect any groups will compensate; I'm just made all over again that that non answer is th3 only answer anybody is getting
CricketMomJenn
I'm sorry
your ghost host
CricketMomJenn : (cozy) I appreciate you sounding in, man. You can imagine my reaction to the FAQ
CricketMomJenn
I can only imagine. Budget cuts that end lifelines should never happen.
