Well..if I didn't let my family's pro trump bull crap get me down, I refuse to let everyone's anti trump stuff get me down either. I can honestly say, I didn't vote for him, and I never would have voted for him. But I don't need to hear about his faults OVER AND OVER.

I'd hope you wouldn't lose friends for feeling this way. Mute is exactly the way to deal with plurks you don't want to read. For my part, I mute good mornings, good nights, stupid memes, inside jokes that don't concern me, happy birthdays for people I don't know, DJ ads, creator ads, blog replurks, photo replurks, and "Please friend my friend" requests.

So if my political plurks get muted, I say fair's fair. I don't think it means Mr/Ms Anon is privileged, it means they're using the tools of social media to focus on the topics they want to. They may very well be affected by Trump's policies, but it doesn't mean they want to talk about it all the time. Some of us do, but other people don't.
