Dr. Yubsie
[Voyager] This is weird episode to be the second last episode
Dr. Yubsie
DS9 spoiled me, clearly
Dr. Yubsie
Seven/Chakotay was so random
Noodle Emperor
Seven/Chakotay was terrible enough that the novels explicitly reverse it
Noodle Emperor
I remember being irritated because I think I shipped Seven/Doctor or Kim at the time I saw it
Dr. Yubsie
I remember mostly being confused
Dr. Yubsie
You know, out of four babies born on Star Trek, the father has actgually managed to be present at the birth for ONE
Dr. Yubsie
And now we're going to cut off before actually showing any reunions
Dr. Yubsie
This episode feels like it ended before it should have ended
Noodle Emperor
It seemed kind of rushed
nevecore
reasons why i never play chakotay past s5 or 6 tbh
nevecore
i can't
nevecore
and yeah the episode definitely ended before anything actually... happened
Dr. Yubsie
Most of the episode worked for me but BOY did they ever blow the very end
Dr. Yubsie
They had a decent finale going and then... didn't stick the landing
Noodle Emperor
It's like they were worried about messing something up
Noodle Emperor
or they had a sequel lined up that got canned
Noodle Emperor
didn't they film two versions, one where they made it and one where they didn't? So the end was probably going to be ambiguous either way
lucineblue
Noodle Emperor : YEAH I SHIPPED SEVEN AND THE DOC TOO
Dr. Yubsie
Not that I'm aware of, but they did run a lot of misdirection about whether they'd make it
lucineblue
...THOUGH KIM WOULD'VE BEEN CUTE
lucineblue
but yeah everyone seems to agree; the fuck with seven and chakotay
Dr. Yubsie
I think they had Enterprise's filming schedule breathig down their necks too much to have time to actaully go so far as to film two endings
Dr. Yubsie
Even, apparently, Jeri Ryan
Noodle Emperor
Seven and the Doctor were really great together, but he also took a fatherly role so I could also go with Kim
Noodle Emperor
who seemed to eternally strike out despite being generally good ship material
Noodle Emperor
(and they'd toyed with it originally)
lucineblue
I remember really liking Kim...
Noodle Emperor
he's pretty boring in s1 and 2 but he gradually gets better
Noodle Emperor
and more perplexing in his talents
lucineblue
right i remember that
Dr. Yubsie
Kim Must Suffer seemed to take over for O"Brien Must Suffer
lucineblue
YEAH
lucineblue
YEAH THAT HAPPENED A LOT
Dr. Yubsie
And he caught Geordi's Love Life :-P
Noodle Emperor
Tom and Kim both had like...a really random assortment of skills
Noodle Emperor
Poor Kim, he's not even the engineer
lucineblue
but I loved their friendship/... ... okay maybe I shipped it a touch. when I didn't know what shipping was.
Dr. Yubsie
Garrett Wang was at HalCon a couple years ago and he was hilarious
Dr. Yubsie
I wasn't able to make his panel because of their weird ticketing setup but he was moderating like everyone else's panel
Noodle Emperor
Kim and Paris' buddy roles were pretty good. Tom was an awful wingman though because in seven years he couldn't get Kim one good hook up
lucineblue
jealous....
Noodle Emperor
except in that different timeline where he ends up Kim's father in law to his eternal chagrin
lucineblue
I
lucineblue
wha--you know what never mind.
lucineblue
star trek au's are weird
Dr. Yubsie
There were Ocampa involved
Dr. Yubsie
Tom was keeping score on Harry's romantic mishaps
Dr. Yubsie
Tom married Kes and then Harry married their daughter
lucineblue
. . . OH. right it was when Kes was teleporting in the timestream thing
Dr. Yubsie
yeah
𝓟𝓮𝓷𝓭𝓻𝓪𝓰𝓸𝓷
This makes me want to play Kes. (LOL)
Noodle Emperor
I mean, I liked that timeline and I'm sad it was totally discarded
Noodle Emperor
Tom/Kes was cute and the fact that it tied into Year of Hell was cool.
𝓟𝓮𝓷𝓭𝓻𝓪𝓰𝓸𝓷
I loved the year of hell timeline. It was really interesting. And I always shipped Tom/Kes.
lucineblue
right, I remember...barely, the year of hell timeline.
lucineblue
what was that about again?
Noodle Emperor
Basically a time ship was determined to restore their home empire which fell in the prime timeline
Noodle Emperor
they changed time by erasing stuff from the timeline
Noodle Emperor
The captain accidentally erased his family once by doing so, and becomes Captain Ahab, determined to bring them back even if it means destroying their home empire again
Noodle Emperor
Voyager gets pulled into it by being in the range of the empire during one of the time changes
Noodle Emperor
and Kes' episode touches on it with some vital information about it
lucineblue
oh geez, right, I remember this
Noodle Emperor
And the worst part is in Year of Hell some of the exact same plot info is used
Noodle Emperor
but they ignore the fact that it's already been addressed in Kes' episode, and have to rediscover this info
lucineblue
uuugh
Noodle Emperor
It was super disappointing. I mean, there's a slight handwave that because time was changed, maybe Kes' adventure never happened (which still doesn't explain how it happened in a timeline where Kes never ascended) but it's something you have to do OOC
Noodle Emperor
it's never acknowledged in the show
TsinganiFlower
Yeah, I was gonna mention that, it was super annoying
TsinganiFlower
Kes tells Janeway about it at the end of the episode, and then they act like it never happened when they get to it
Noodle Emperor
it's especially bad because she name drops them, literally the same method they find to stop the torpedoes is used, and iirc even the same phase variance is required
Noodle Emperor
which we already had an episode about, and then we just repeat the same situation that played out with Kes but with Seven instead
TsinganiFlower
Yeah. And don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the episode! But... really?
Noodle Emperor
It was a good episode, be "it" being Kes' or Year of Hell
Noodle Emperor
(which was meant to be a three parter, thus why part two is so rushed)
Noodle Emperor
but they're heavily damaged by the presence of the other episode in question
TsinganiFlower
yeah
