Asian (Pakistani) woman, didn't speak English very well... asked if she could bring the shoes back if they didn't fit. I said yes.

Which is policy. You are fully allowed to bring back anything you buy within 12 months, with a receipt, providing they are in the condition you bought them in. i.e. not worn.

She comes back about an hour and 40 minutes later... I think "Oh god, doing a refund is going to be awkward."

Because, as mentioned, she doesn't speak English well and I don't speak Urdu, Arabic or any other of that type of language.

She puts the receipt on the desk... sure enough, it's the one from earlier. Time's on there, my name...

Then she gets the shoes out.

Worn to death. Bottoms are filthy, insides are faded from foot-pressure, the heels have wear where they've touched the pavement...

I'm like "I can't take this back." She's like "Why? You said I could bring back?"

Speaking of scammers, I got a warning phonecall today from another branch, informing me that a woman will be coming not the shop tomorrow to return shoes of a particular code, and that I'm not to give her a

refund because she's a thief, always does this, and always gets told no.

Apparently she can get ... shouty, but I am not to give her money back. I have a feeling I know who she is, too.

The description I got was mid forties, black ponytail.

I don't know whether that means she's in her mid forties, black, with a ponytail, or she's got a black ponytail, but in the case of the former, I know exactly who she is.

Because she comes in every few months with the same "I got these for my daughter, but the sole's coming away..." story.

The shoes are always different sizes, so she must have a thousand daughters, and terrible, terrible luck to be buying these shoes and the soles coming off without wear all the time!

And to lose the receipt every time too... dreadful.

Every time she's tried in the past, she's given a different surname (Jones, Brown, Smith...) and a P.O box for her address, which we don't accept.

And she's just aggressive and generally awful, always claims she's going to ring customer services and never does and never accepts a credit note, so I've got the point where I'm just like "8|" about her.

No, because all we need for a refund is the surname, the postcode and the number. And since P.O. Boxes have postcodes, they go through with the address of the post office.
