My dad has done a lot on his side, but I only have info back through my great gran on my mother's side and I'm not sure how to...find...more.

There's a lot of stuff online now. Like birth certificates and stuff. Also some libraries and stuff also specialize in geneology

that it connects you with other people's family trees, if you have common ancestors? And you can use their info to fill yours out. (This is how I got my dad's paternal side all the way to the1600s)

Maiden names are good. Census records are REALLY helpful, although sometimes tricky. (I'm stuck on my dad's maternal side. I'm not sure if I've found his grandmother or not, THANKS CENSUS CONFUSION)
