a sad thing happened today

a choir that I used to sing with in maine is closing its studio at the end of the summer, which is sad in and of itself but

the founder/owner has been having a lot of health problems so she can't continue it and that's really upsetting

I pretty much grew up with this woman, she used to direct the boy singers of maine, when my brother was in it, and then she founded musica de filia in 1997

and I sang in every level of the choir from 1999 until I graduated high school

I grew up with jaye and the group and I'm still friends with a lot of the girls I met, I had like a Group there and it was the kind of thing I never had anywhere else

and if not for all the training I got there I probably wouldn't be able to sing worth shit now that my voice has changed

and jaye was so!!!!! she was always so good with us, she was good with the little girls and the middle schoolers and the high schoolers and then she made a choir for older women bc so many moms hung around

with their daughters and wanted to sing too

I remember when I was little and jaye was having a really hard time bc her husband was deployed in afghanistan and so musica de filia was really therapeutic for her

we all really loved each other, I think

and like it's been 19 years and she's mostly been doing this by herself the entire time which is incredible so it's not surprising that she's reached this point but I'm so sad

musica gave me so many things

LMAO I'm crying ahh I just hope that jaye can get the rest she needs and deserves now

she said in her post on the musica facebook page that she wants to come back with new all-age projects when she's healthier and I hope so much that she gets to do that

it's weird to see a thing you were a part of for 11 years just go away

I'm sorry to hear that, Gideon :c I hope she and the group are able to come back strong.

which, I mean, if you want to get metaphorical

but ughh she deserves some really good rest and time to get healthy after so long, I think she was starting to have a hard time even when I graduated in 2010 so it's been a long time coming

and I mean she's not old or anything, she was still pretty young (late 20s early 30s maybe??) when I joined but like, u kno, time happens, stress happens, I think she might have something chronic

like in the vein of lupus but not that exactly
