The worst thing is, we know we're teaching him that this is the way to get what he wants, but we can't ignore him. He will keep up the aforementioned things for literally hours.

I know this, because I do try to ignore him when he starts meowing for his dinner early. He will meow and scratch for 2 hours and the only thing making it semi-bearable is that there is a closed door

and usually music or a video playing. When we're trying to sleep, though...
