My Knee
Just making a fresh Rogue thoughts plurk instead of adding to the chin pubes one, charming as it is.
My Knee
Upon rewatch, it is unmistakably clear that the Assassins had no idea the earthquake in Haiti was connected to the Piece of Eden mission there.
My Knee
I mean, why would they, it's not unreasonable to call that a coincidence.
My Knee
Refreshing my memories of this game also shows me that Shay and the other Assassins are all kind of assholes. Like they're kinda dicks to him but he doesn't come off super great either.
My Knee
General low-level douchiness all around.
My Knee
I AM STILL REALLY MAD THAT WE NEVER EVEN MET CONNOR 1.0. Even if it would have been really sad.
My Knee
shellacker: He IS.
My Knee
He also seems a bit lazy, but I'll cut him some slack since that's partially due to the need for a tutorial section.

Douchebags: The Game
theresa
i'm still mad that connor didn't get the cool open world sailing map why
theresa
pretends shay is connor and sails around ig
My Knee
If only we could get Connor's outfit to do so
theresa
right..... if only
My Knee
It is kind of hilarious how the ship stuff and gameplay is 100% a remix of Black Flag, but I doubt this game had a long dev cycle so that's not surprising.
SugarPlumFairy
I can understand the "don't fix what isn't broken" I just kind of wished they did...something else!
SugarPlumFairy
Even if Rogue was half a game
SugarPlumFairy
Though that said, I was personally glad the ships ended there
My Knee
Gameplay-wise, it strikes me as similar to Brotherhood--like one repeat of substantially similar gameplay is fine, but three felt/would feel crusty and stale
SugarPlumFairy
Yeah and that's not counting freedom cry which also shipped
SugarPlumFairy
One point there goes to Tyranny because the ship wasn't utilized long and really was a piece to tell the story
SugarPlumFairy
So ships were like...2 and a half in a row
My Knee
The sailing in AC3 is also different from the next installments. Not 100% different, but going backwards is kind of startling.
SugarPlumFairy
I mean, the ships controlled better in other installments but AC3 made it not so much in your fave about it
SugarPlumFairy
I dunno man, I wasn't super on board with ships to begin with
SugarPlumFairy
Face*
My Knee
I was at first but then Black Flag got me super addicted to them
My Knee
But it was good to do something else with Unity/Syndicate
SugarPlumFairy
Yeee, agreed
My Knee
Man, the Lisbon earthquake escape is harrowing. Well done Ubisoft.
My Knee
And here's the confrontation scene...you know, I think in this moment, everyone reacts understandably.
tits mcgee
Hated the ships in III and now I'll sail for HOURS in Black Flag
My Knee
Of course Shay is freaking the fuck out, especially after being isolated on a ship for weeks immediately after the trauma of what happened. Screaming at Achilles is not a good move, but it's understandable.
My Knee
And you know, I don't think the Assassins are being overly defensive when they respond like he's a crazy person. Who the fuck would think the
My Knee
PoE caused earthquakes? That's never been a thing with them in the past.
My Knee
Like...no one's really in the wrong here.
My Knee
They're not behaving in an ideal fashion, which would involve eating a fucking Snickers to calm down and then TALKING, but I can't look at this scenario and think "yes, you are the asshole here."
My Knee
It's the bit immediately after where everything goes wrong. Shay just assumes the initial reaction of ?!?!?!!?! can't be changed.
SugarPlumFairy
Yeah if I were to give Rogue any props
My Knee
And Achilles is also making bad assumptions when he confronts Shay here instead of being like OK can we talk now
SugarPlumFairy
I thought that the narrative was pretty well placed
SugarPlumFairy
No one is the villain here but each of them think each other are misguided. They both are.
My Knee
Yeah
SugarPlumFairy
Like the bitterness later in Achilles life makes a LOT of sense looking at Rogue's story
My Knee
This conflict really does come down to bad assumptions
My Knee
I've played Rogue before, but this is the first time I've looked at the story missions/scenes since it came out
SugarPlumFairy
I probably should give it a replay, or at least a rewatch
My Knee
I found it kind of uncomfortable to play because the whole time Shay really refuses to acknowledge his own fuckups and willful blindness
My Knee
Also I felt like a FUCKING MONSTER killing Ade
My Knee
At the point of Shay's escape from the homestead, I'd still say no one's more to blame than the other for what happened, but the Assassins are being the bigger dicks
SugarPlumFairy
Yeah the Assassins had every opportunity to convince him otherwise
SugarPlumFairy
But they don't
SugarPlumFairy
They just see him as someone that could stop their progress
SugarPlumFairy
Which was to be in front of the Templars
My Knee
Yeah, I'd say that their biggest flaw right now isn't being indifferent to the deaths of thousands—I don't think that's the case. But they're absolutely focusing too hard on the fight over PoEs.
SugarPlumFairy
That was the big picture of Shay being there and witnessing the earthquake and them...not
My Knee
Man. I don't especially think that Hope is 100% squeaky clean with her gang affiliation, but but they never actually show any proof that she's planning to use gas on citizens.
My Knee
Assumptions, again.
My Knee
Uggggggh the Templar manipulation is pretty much just as gross as when I played it. It's so fucking blatant.
My Knee
The Colonel didn't want them to mention the Templar thing to Shay in order to avoid influencing his decisionmaking, huh? It doesn't work that way when they know
My Knee
and can be on their best behavior/only show Shay certain facts and sides of the way they operate.
My Knee
'Why did you return the manuscript to me?' 'Because you earned my trust.' Dickcheese, you never really tested him!
My Knee
This is where the story really gets me steamed
My Knee
Aaaand here's Haytham! If only we had switched to him as the playable character from this point over. He may be a shitlord as well but at least he cops to it.
theresa
re: adé, i am pretty sure i gave that mission 1 star because i felt like a scumbag
My Knee
I think I did the same. It's awful. Though it deserved points for having Ade tell Haytham that Edward would be ashamed of him.
My Knee
I damn near stood up and applauded when that happened
theresa
the one shining moment
My Knee
It was so beautiful and correct
