[XCOM][FE] I wish xcom had some kind of system in place for your soldiers forming relationships
Gabiluzbad
I mean in a very loose way the games are kind of similar
Gabiluzbad
Army management, tactical grid combat, permadeath
Gabiluzbad
But FE is waaaay more story based
Gabiluzbad
It'd still be nice though if there was some thing where specific soldiers could be like "we are friends now"
Gabiluzbad
Even if they don't get detailed support conversations
Gabiluzbad
And then they got bonuses when near each other or something
Gabiluzbad
Maybe if an alien shoots at your friend you get an aim bonus against it
EsperBot
That's pretty cool. Maybe when I get home and start playing around with the mod tools I'll see if I can make something like that.
EsperBot
(Flip side: If soldiers get wounded in the same mission together, they become MORTAL ENEMIES)
Gabiluzbad
Yes obviously
Gabiluzbad
That's just part of the XCOM experience
Rama
Even SRW has relationship bonuses and it's like the worst tactical RPG on the market...
Gabiluzbad
Well XCOM has randomly generated characters so it's harder
EsperBot
Or better
Gabiluzbad
So friend effects:
- minor aim boost against aliens that shoot at your friend
- minor will boost when fighting next to your friend
- chance to panic if your friend is dropped
EsperBot
If a soldier is wounded, his relationship with the last soldier to miss a shot on it goes down
EsperBot
*on the alien who hurt him
Gabiluzbad
all "I THOUGHT YOU HAD MY BACK!"
EsperBot
You could probably have it affect the way they interact in Avenger rooms, too.
Gabiluzbad
yeah
Gabiluzbad
more likely to be drinking together in the lounge or playing cards in the barracks
EsperBot
Enemies are more likely to have the 'angry conversation' animation
Gabiluzbad
If your friend drops, you get a chance to panic
Gabiluzbad
but if you SUCCEED and DON'T panic
Gabiluzbad
then you get a bunch of bonuses
Gabiluzbad
Status: Dead Inside
Gabiluzbad
Honestly you could do that pretty well with the Shaken Mechanic
Gabiluzbad
Friend died: You're fucked up for a while
Gabiluzbad
but then you get your shit together and now you're tougher and more determined than before
Vehrec
hold wakes for the departed, spend supplies to turn bad permanent effects into good ones?
Gabiluzbad
I don't know if I like that
Gabiluzbad
Maybe if instead of holding a wake you just took the effected soldiers out of combat for a while
Gabiluzbad
They weren't deployable for a few days
𝖊𝖓𝖘𝖍𝖗𝖔𝖚𝖉𝖊𝖉.
"worst tactical rpg on the market" thats a funny way of saying project x zone nerdo
Rama
I actually thought PxZ was a more standard RPG. Never played it.
Rama
I'm just making fun of my favorite niche fanservice series's lack of gameplay depth
Gabiluzbad
SRW has pretty terrible gameplay it's true
EsperBot
In terms of wakes the best way to implement that would be a lot of sad-looking people at the bar after a mission with deaths, I think.
EsperBot
No mechanical effects, just a visual.
Gabiluzbad
yeah that's what I'm thinking
Gabiluzbad
Might be worth having a Mourning status that lasts for like a week
Gabiluzbad
One thing the game already does that I like
Gabiluzbad
that if you fail a mission then on that little scene in the sky ranger all your guys look super despondant
Gabiluzbad
But I feel like they could take that another step further
Gabiluzbad
Like if the mission was a success but one of your guys almost bled out I don't think he should be smiling and nodding casually to everyone else on the way back
EsperBot
Speaking of deaths, one mod I could really use is one that prompts you, upon return from a mission where people died, to write an epitaph for the fallen.
Gabiluzbad
haha that'd be nice
Gabiluzbad
"She died as she lived: surrounded by flames and explosions and the screams of the fallen"
EsperBot
I always forget to until like three missions later and then I can't remember how they died.
Gabiluzbad
or "This is what you get if you miss twice in a row on a 65% hit chance you shithead"
EsperBot
You can already epitaph them, I just want a button that'll take me right to their memorial screen so I actually do it, haha.
Gabiluzbad
I didn't realize that
EsperBot
Yeah go to the bar/memorial and go to their fallen soldier entry
EsperBot
there's a button you can hit to write up an epitaph for them
Gabiluzbad
neat
Vehrec
Apparently, 62% of all XCOM fatalities are caused by collateral damage, (using cars for cover.)
Gabiluzbad
I'd believe it
EsperBot
Using cars for cover or standing on roofs when grenade enemies are around
Gabiluzbad
I really like the psiop power Fuse
Gabiluzbad
for disarming guys with grenades more than the damage
Gabiluzbad
though I was dismayed to learn that heavy MECs have more than one ammo with their missile launcher
Vehrec
2% of XCOM fatalities is blue-on-blue.
Gabiluzbad
as in blowing up your own guys?
Vehrec
Or rookies panicing and shooting their buddies.
Gabiluzbad
I never took psipanic in XCOM1 because every fucking time I used it the alien would panic, take their shitty potshot, and kill one of my guys by dumb luck
Vehrec
9% are MIA, left behind but not confirmed dead.
Vehrec
Of the members of XCOM directly killed by enemy action, 43% of all fatalities are due to the humble Advent Trooper, 20% are the handiwork of Officers, and 14% are stun-lancers. Sectoids get 10%.
Vehrec
Cost estimate to repair all the broken doors and windows? 2.199 billion.
Vehrec
EsperBot
This is probably because most fatalities occur in the first few months of the campaign
EsperBot
when troopers, officers, and sectoids are everywhere.
EsperBot
stunlancers are a whole other fatality spike unto themselves, that window when ADVENT starts sending them after you but you can't have mag weapons yet can be absolutely brutal
EsperBot
Although I do have to wonder if XCOM soldiers bludgeoned to death by psi zombies count as kills for the sectoid
EsperBot
sectoids almost never shoot, which means they're strong support but not super dangerous on their own
Vehrec
the Advent trooper also benefits from being overlooked in targeting priorities. People prefer to target other things first.
EsperBot
Not by smart tacticians they aren't!
EsperBot
Not in the early months, anyway.
EsperBot
Until stun lancers and MECs start rolling out the only thing that might take priority over killing a trooper is killing a captain, but only if you're SURE you can get that kill.
Vehrec
Smart ones no, but it's tempting to go for the officer or the Stun Lancer first because guys with guns seem less threatening.
EsperBot
Oh if there's stun lancers absolutely murder the shit out of that first
EsperBot
Stun lancers have to die the first turn you can target them or you are almost guaranteed to have a bad time.
Vehrec
Yep. No disagreement here.
