[Cat] Abbey... I don't know if she's improving or not.
Rizu
A little backstory; I noticed her eyelid on her left eye wasn't retracting properly, leaving a white patch of skin covering her eye and causing the pupil to retract bigtime.
Rizu
This was on Thursday night and it happened rather suddenly
Rizu
When I noticed it hadn't improved by morning, combined with lethargy (sleeping excessively even for a cat) and lack of interest in her food, I looked up what it could mean online and called the vet
Rizu
they got me in the same day, saw her, checked the eye out, then gave me an ointment to put on her eyelid three times a day. Friday night it looked like it was improving.
Rizu
She'd gotten her appetite back, she was more energetic, and the lid was starting to retract and she was regaining use of that eye
Rizu
unfortunately, either because I suck at applying the medicine or because of something I don't know is going on, the eyelid is back out and it hasn't improved again with the medicine
Rizu
I almost wish it's just me sucking at applying it because I don't want her to be getting more sick
Rizu
it bothers me to look at her. Seriously, I just want her to be happy and healthy and I know it's a sign that something is wrong
Rizu
(to clarify, I literally do have to apply this ointment. On her eyelid so that it smears across her eye whenever she blinks. naturally, kitty doesn't take that well even if she does get treats after)
Rizu
like... I'm still torn on whether or not I should take her back so soon though, because even if the eyelid is back out she still has her normal energy levels and appetite
Rizu
that said, along with the eyelid it looks like the left side of her face might be a little swollen
Rizu
okay did a little more research, and it's looking more like the medication that I have is an anti inflammatory, which means I stink at applying it considering that when the nurse at the vet showed me how there
Rizu
were almost immediate results
Rizu
so I think the vet is counting on this to go away on its own
Rizu
meaning I should hold off on another trip
Rizu
at least for now... if she DOES get worse I'll get her in again sooner
Rizu
the fact that her appetite and energy returned are enough to get me to hold off on it
Rizu
that said she's still going in on the 21st to check in
Haunted Boobs
Yeah, I was going to say, I went through something very similar with one of my horses, and I was panicked that something was more wrong than we realize, but I just wasn't doing it well.
Haunted Boobs
I ended up calling the vet before having him back out, maybe just give a call and see if the vet has any advice?
Haunted Boobs
Eye ointment is always such a pain to do right, even on well behaved humans who understand they need it. Animals....oof.
Rizu
yeah. I think that's what I'll do
Rizu
if I had someone else living with me this would be easy because then there's two people holding the cat still. it's just me though and I only have two hands
Haunted Boobs
Oh god, I can't even imagine how difficult that would be.
Rizu
yeah ^^; mom's visiting later today so maybe she can help me out but I need to do this three times a day. It's getting a little better at least, I think I'm getting better at it
Rizu
Update, actually managed to get the medicine into her eye this time. I understand why she's been so reluctant about it, as after looking up the medicine one of the effects is that it can be initially a little
Rizu
stingy
Rizu
but this time Abbey was also really good about taking it, so I spoilt her rotten after (treats, wet food, and play time) to make sure she knew she did very well
Rizu
like it took me a second to get the medicine in there, I blinked her eye for her a couple of times to make sure it was spread well, and then she was done. She was a lot calmer compared to earlier
Rizu
I think she realized either this is helping her or that I'm not going to let her go without making her take her medicine
Rizu
(seriously she almost escaped me earlier, clawing and everything. I am very stubborn.)
Rizu
I SHOULD NOTE I AM NOT NORMALLY ROUGH ON HER AT ALL. I just needed to be a very strong force to make sure Abbey got the medicine she needed ;; honestly I hate doing that and I know it sucks
Rizu
ABBEY IS MEAN AND SCARING THE CRAP OUT OF ME it looked like her right third eyelid was going to stay out forever but that one still seems to retract properly. still just her left and no improvement even post
Rizu
meds though
