book club!
last night we met to discuss dibs in search of self, we had a very interesting discussion and it was suggested that we create a plurk to continue the discussion here!
book club!
so any questions, thoughts, anything that you want to add
book club!
or if you, like owly, missed the meeting but have burning questions!
sharks

Obsolete
I crashed and then had to go start my day, but I was glad to see you in the pixel, guys. (cozy)
Gailyana
ok, well first we actually DID discuss Dibs as a pseudonym, I think it was Polly who said she kept thinking about "first Dibs" and then it kind of made sense?
Gailyana
the origin story of why I picked this is I first read it probably around the age of 10/11 at my grandparent's house where I had free run of the Reader's Digest Condensed books. They had a ton of them.
Gailyana
it really stuck with me and I picked it up again while I was studying developmental psych, and my latest read was when I started therapy last year. I was interested in what other people thought about
Gailyana
Dibs overall, but also how people thought about it in the context of SL residents using SL as a type of "play therapy".
owly
honestly, having not been active in SL since August, I'm afraid to look back and sort out what my life there was all about
PlurkDevi
Therapy time!
owly
nope! nope nope nope nope nope nope nope
owly
BUT I can certainly see how SL and "the room" are similar, oh yes
Loki
sl has a lot more drama
owly
and no one ... no one ... is as patient as Miss A with letting people do whatever it is that they want to do to work out their shit
Gailyana
I think my therapist would be, if it was play therapy.
Gailyana
but if you mean SL... nobody has time for anyone!
cat
I forgot to say last night that I was in therapy for five years and that my therapist always thought SL was wonderful for me
ArielWingtips
the play therapy part of SL can be powerful. I have incredibly fond memories of massive multiplayer goofiness - especially the home sim back to hallelujah blue etc. launching craziness was VERY therapeutic
Gailyana
and I know I constantly talk about this, but I actually find being able to go to a virtual beach on SL in the middle of winter very therapeutic.
ArielWingtips
i like having my OWN space that i can decorate however ever I want - even if it is only virtual
PlurkDevi
I could have a vaudeville hook in SL...
ArielWingtips
i could LAUNCH a vaudeville hook in SL
ArielWingtips
similar to the polly paperclip inspired toilet launcher

Gail when I first joined SL I went on quests for rain, secret passages, fireplaces.... Definitely filled in some serenity and curiosity holes. But then I discovered people there....
