but no matter how much i love the lyrics of something there's a limit to how much i can hear it if i'm not enamoured with the music itself

I'm a writer and a musician and I'm a music listener but I have difficulty picking out individual parts. I listen to the sonic gestalt.

yeah both here too tbh
words are easier for my brain to focus on bc of my linguist bg but i have legit listened to a song (with words) on repeat before just bc i liked one particular part of the music itself

I listen to music a lot in the background so it all just kind of blends together, but I think my brain subconsciously focuses a lot on the lyrics because if I listen to a song often enough I tend to just

i'm hard of hearing, so unless they lyrics are really clear, it's the music that jumps out at me.

I can do both, but it kind of alternates? I pick out bits of the music that I really like, but I also focus on the lyrics the first few times I listen to it too

Probably why I listen to so much German-language music - I have to concentrate to understand it.
