small poll for SCIENCE: 1. do you get brainfreeze? 2a. do you get migraines? 2b. if so, do you get migraines with or without aura?

No brain freeze ever. (Chest freeze yes). Occasionally get migraines, maybe one every month or two. No auras.

miles you ass
Yes, yes (I am having one right now), aura.

Becca Stareyes
Yes. Maybe (I get headaches, but I think they are probably sinus headaches), and without auras.

brain freeze if ice cream too fast, not independently. ...can it happen independently?

I'm not sure re: migraines-- there's a murderheadache that comes up every month or so, but it doesn't hit the sensitivity to light that I've been told migraines have, just motion. and no aura.

ɪ ᴀᴍ ɪʀᴏɴ ᴍᴀɴ
for the purposes of this question, migraine without aura = intense headache only affecting one side of the head

it's hard to define atypical migraines vs other types of headaches, but let's use that as our working definition

what yr hypothesis
![](https://avatars.plurk.com/10180673-medium2.gif)
ɪ ᴀᴍ ɪʀᴏɴ ᴍᴀɴ
I was wondering if not getting brainfreeze was associated with atypical aura-less migraines
![](https://avatars.plurk.com/10180673-medium2.gif)
ɪ ᴀᴍ ɪʀᴏɴ ᴍᴀɴ
since I don't get brainfreeze or auras and

"Research suggests that the same vascular mechanism and nerve implicated in brain freeze cause the aura (sensory disturbance) and pulsatile (throbbing pain) phases of migraines"

ɪ ᴀᴍ ɪʀᴏɴ ᴍᴀɴ
clearly you can have brainfreeze with no aura. but can you have aura with no brainfreeze?

to be fair, my dad gets auras and then his migranes block out half his vision if he doesn't pop painkillers the moment he notices it
