Do you guys know of any books/movies/shows that have no antagonists? I'm sick of them and want media without them.
Reuben
I mean, like "people" antagonists. I understand antagonists can be events, kind of, but I mean without people-like antagonists.
Hannah (CA)
hmm that's a good question, I'll get back to you. I agree with you. like, thinking about normal life...you don't really have Big Evil Antagonists.
Reuben
I've only read one story, and I just found it, that has absolutely no protagonists (at least as far as I read years ago), and is a fun as fuck story to read. I'mma read it again tonight.
Sammy
Shameless (TV Show... I like the US version better), Masters Of Sex (it's a really interesting tv show and so far I haven't caught an antagonist), The Big Fish (movie), My Mad Fat Diary (tv show BUT be careful-
Sammy
-it has LOTS of trigger warnings.)
Sammy
and that's what I can think of right now
Reuben
I've watched a lot of Shameless (US) and I need to catch up lol. Does Masters of Sex have a lot of sex in it? MMFD - I've seen bits and pieces and not really my type of show. Thanks for the list!
Reuben
I don't care for trigger warnings, nothing phases me outside of sex scenes so that's no boundary.
Sammy
Masters of Sex is about a gynecologist (?) who's trying to understand how the female orgasm works (gonna be honest I stopped watching a while ago so the deets have escaped, but it's something along these lines)
Reuben
Eh, prob not my thing.
Sammy
and so far, what I've watched, there hasn't been anything too explicit but I don't know about what comes after
Sammy
it's mostly the social part of it, because that happens in the 50s or whatever when sexuality for women was a tabu in America and whatnot, but yeah if you don't like sex related things
Sammy
maybe you should stay away from it
Hannah (CA)
i love my mad fat diary, her main antagonist is herself. if you're looking for something with multiple protagonists/ ambiguous antagonists mad men comes to mind. morality is very blurred in that.
Hannah (CA)
and point of view changes a lot.
Hannah (CA)
Place Beyond the Pines is an interesting movie that places with point of view and stuff, but it's kinda set up with "antagonists" but you don't really know who the real bad guy was it's kind of left morally
Hannah (CA)
ambiguous.
Sammy
oh you also have Mr Selfridge (the tv show) I watched it, and I don't think it has a fixed antagonists... Just some mean people that sometimes appear to cause some problems I guess
Hannah (CA)
Groundhog Day doesn't have an antagonist. random, I know. but yeah
Hannah (CA)
Into the Wild! I freaking love that movie
Finn
Inside Out, the new Pixar movie, is antagonist-free.
And also awesome.
