My aunt has an Israeli friend called Smidar, who showed up here from California a few months back to stay with my aunt for a few months while she got back on her feet

So she's been meaning to move to New York for a while, and the plan was for her to find an apartment in NY on craigslist, and for my uncle to drive her down and for her to get back on her feet there

She's like a frantic little purse dog - whenever something remotely goes wrong, she freaks out and doesn't know how to handle herself and will call my aunt and shriek.

So about a month ago, she finds a place in New York, and bolts out because she feels so wretched staying with my aunt and uncle. She didn't really look into this landlord situation, but fine, she's happy, she's

So she gets into the place, and the woman starts verbally abusing her. Cursing her out, being overly critical, just breathing down her neck the whole time she's there

And Smidar paid her $2800 just to walk in the door and that money was supposed to last for two months.

And so Smidar fights back. She goes "Hey, you know, this subletting thing is illegal, the doorman keeps saying he wants me out of here, what's the deal with that?"

And the woman flips out and starts screaming for Smidar to get out of her house

And Smidar's like "Okay, fine, I'm going, but I want the security deposit I paid and the days I'm not staying here."

And the woman's like "You don't have a leg to stand on, there was no lease, you have no proof, you're an immigrant who can't speak much english, and if anyone asks me, you're my 'guest' who I kicked out"

So now Smidar is freaking out and my aunt is trying to navigate small claims court for her and whaaat the fuck.
