If a device connects to the Internet, then it likely has a password and it's just as likely that the password is already known to those that would abuse it. Check them and change them.

For me, the trick was to create a password that I would always be able to remind myself of and then to think of a pattern of different tweaks I would remember. Sounds harder than it is, once you get used to it.

I've done it long enough that the pattern of recalling the password has helped me to remember unique passwords for sites I rarely go to.
