IT SAYS A LOT ABOUT HIM WHEN THE CHOICES THAT NET YOU THE MOST POINTS INVOLVE SELF DEPRECATION AND THE PROTAG GOING OUT OF HER WAY TO BE AS STUPID AS POSSIBLE
Yes, tell the girl who just said she wants to pay back the village that raised her after she lost her whole family to a horrible plague that her life goals are shit
Niflheim is everything that this game isn't. I just had no idea when I first picked it up because I managed to pick THE ONLY good route in Wizardess Heart for my first route.
You know it's bad when Yukiya and Elias spend the preview for the next chapter commiserating about how much of an asshole his brother was to the protag
well okay I can buy that, but it's not her buddy's responsibility and she never asks Luca anyway, he helps on his own sometimes but all she wants is him to attend his own studies
The whole point of the buddy system is for two people to help each other improve though. Also she's a specialist who didn't have any people to assist her in training in her village yet everyone assumes
I admit I'm biased because in Yukiya's route she often falls asleep with her face in her textbooks after staying up late cramming, so APPARENTLY her worth ethic is very different depending on the route
With a distinct undertone of "now that you're my girlfriend I kind of want to take everything from you and I won't take no or actively running away from me for an answer"
All the more so because the protagonist admits multiple times that he's never been anything but mean or manipulative to her, yet she still fawns over him
Even when I was kind of tempted for Elias' route - who I actually find to be much better, and no worse than any other tsundere route I've played - I refrained :|a
Meanwhile, I see the heroine as being this poor girl who just wants to attend this school and do well and finally gets a shot, and she's already facing all these challenges...
"I mean, I could make an effort for thirteen days or so in order to let you attend this school, but...naaah, too much effort. I'd rather crush your life dream for lulz."
Like "your grades rely on me and I don't give a shit about them, so how about I make you do things for me since I hold all the cards in regards to your future here~"
She never literally said that at all :|a I WISH SHE HAD, one of my biggest gripes was that she never went off on Luca properly except the one time he kissed her without her consent
Which, granted, would have helped her, but let's face it, she wasn't selfish at all in Luca's route. If she actually cared about herself, she'd have kept away from him doing horrible shit to her all the time.
right, not literal but basically. butting her nose in his business and trying to change him and his priorities under the flag of caring but really for her own advantage
Also, to be fair, the Buddy thing wasn't only for the thirteen days. But once she'd been properly accepted, she'd have more time to figure him out and find out what might make him want to clean up his act.
Well, she's literally stuck with him for as long as she's at the school, so it is important for her to address his underlying issues and try to understand him.
But tbh, I got the distinct impression playing her route that she didn't care about them being Buddies for her grades. I mean, she did care about those, and Luca's dragging her down did bother her.
But her obsession with their Buddy status read a lot more like 'shoujo obsession with bonds and friendship' than 'mercenary interest in a partner I'm stuck with'.
but it can't save her in my eyes when she still pins herself to the wall with her own arrow, shares secrets she shouldn't, and has ridiculous fantasies about love ugh
But from a YOU ARE A CHARACTER SPECIFICALLY DESIGNED TO CHARM THE PROTAGONIST INTO FALLING IN LOVE WITH YOU standpoint, it's like "...you are completely failing at what you are designed for"
Also, like I said - she comes to care for Luca anyway, whereas even by the complete end of his route he seems to value her no more than when they'd started.
Which is a massive failure both from a character standpoint and from an otome standpoint. He is the exact same person at the end as he was at the start.
And I was like I DIDN'T COME ALL THIS WAY NOT TO GET THE BEST ENDING and I bought the things because apparently you can't get the best ending without spending money
there is no reason to spend 20k on a final checkpoint if you aren't even getting the best ending and in a game where getting 1k a day is almost impossible
This isn't funny, guys. I'm not laughing, it's not cute.
but hey I like Luca, the heroine is the one who makes me wtf in his routemaybe if the protag had a chance in hell of succeeding without him and he actively interfered he'd be a problem but she don'twhen given the proper instruction and guidance SHOCKINGLY ENOUGH, she does welland she never asks Luca anyway, he helps on his own sometimes but all she wants is him to attend his own studies
